I've been a frequent shopper at our local Walmart for many years, largely because it was the only affordable option in the area, at least until this week when our new Target opened. Our Walmart has faced numerous issues over the years, but to be fair, much of it isn't the employees' fault. Being in a tourist town, the store gets exceptionally busy. However, the problems are numerous. Firstly, the entrance and exit situation is poorly designed. Only a small number of cars can exit during each green light, leading to daily traffic backups that can take up to 30 minutes just to leave the parking lot. Inside, the store is frequently out of stock on essential items, forcing us to shop elsewhere. It's often disorganized and chaotic, with about 70% of our visits resulting in frustration over the lack of available shopping carts. We almost always end up going back to the parking lot to retrieve a cart ourselves. A recent remodel made things even more confusing. The gaming aisle was placed directly in front of the warehouse doors, where pallets are constantly being moved in and out. This makes it actually impossible to shop in that area, as you have to move every 10-20 seconds to allow for pallet traffic. It’s incredibly frustrating. The final straw for me, however, came during my today’s visit. I purchased a set of two travel bidets at a discount. Once I got home and eagerly opened the box I was instantly greeted with a foul stench, and then an even fouler sight. They were both absolutely covered in feces. It was clear these were customer returns that had been placed back on the shelf without inspection. I understand selling returned items, but there's an expectation that products sold in this type of retail environment, especially hygiene-related items, are unused. This experience left me deeply uncomfortable thinking of returning to not only this store but any Walmart location. I have completely lost all confidence in the stores, unsure of whether the products I purchase are new or used. Moving forward, I’ll be shopping exclusively at Target, where I trust that hygiene standards are maintained, and used toiletries are not sold on the shelves.
