Target violating consumer rights and taking away my right to a refund. Target sell Unregistered apple products! On Saturday, September 28, 2024, I visited the Target store in Kearny. There was a discount on tablets, in the store. Although I had no intention of buying a tablet, I decided to purchase one because of the discount. The payment for the tablet I purchased was handled by a young employee in the technology department. He brought the tablet from the stockroom, processed my payment within the department, and gave me the receipt.
Before leaving the Target store, I browsed around for a while and read the back of the product box without opening it. After doing some quick research online, I realized that the product was not suitable for me. I wanted to return the product without leaving the store and without opening the box. I went to the customer service department to make the return. However, when I attempted to return the product at the returns section, the employee there told me that the receipt I had did not correspond to the product, the barcode didn’t return any results, and they could not accept the return.
I explained to them that it was one of their own employees who processed my payment and that the barcode issue had nothing to do with me. Both the product and the receipt were provided by their employee, so I had every right to return the product, and I was not at fault in this situation. Despite this, they did not help me in any way.
After waiting in the store for an hour, I called the police. Once the police arrived, I explained the whole situation. They reviewed the store's camera footage, and after reviewing the footage, my return was finally processed. In total, I lost about two hours of my time while this was happening.
Despite being completely innocent in this matter, Target tried to take away my right to return the product. What would have happened if I had left the store, opened the box for any reason, used the product, and then decided to return it two days later? How could Target try to rob me of my right to a return in such a manner? I will be pursuing my legal rights. I have police raport and return receipt, I will find a lawyer for that
