Target’s “exchange” process is absolute trash. I received a gift for my baby shower that was the incorrect color. The problem? Target doesn’t advertise there being two different colors, just the one. When purchasing the product, the gift giver didn’t notice the kick & play piano was pink and not green, so they were given a gift receipt for the item.
Today, I went into my Target store and walked to the section “exchanges & return” and asked to exchange the PINK piano for the GREEN piano. The employee told me they didn’t offer exchanges as there was “no button for it.” I asked if I could go back and make sure they had a green one and was told “well you’d have to return it anyway.” So I said okay.
The gift-giver purchased the item with Target’s “perks” for whatever from Target Circle. Because of this, I received a gift card for the amount the individual paid, not the price of the item… if I wanted to purchase the same item again, I’d have to eat the cost of the item, which is absolutely trash in my opinion. Target continuously advertises their perk programs, but fails to mention that if you buy something even with your Target card? The individual wouldn’t be able to exchange it for the same thing, if it were to come impaired in any way, without eating the cost of what I “saved” for the product.
That is incredibly predatory, in my opinion. A majority of people earn “perks” from utilizing the credit card Target has to offer or purchasing products from Target Circle they may not need, but are offered with a free gift card, etc.. knowing that whoever I give a gift to has to eat the difference makes me never want to use Target for gift purchases again, as that is absolutely wrong to both the giver and the receiver.
That, along with the fact an area literally titled “exchanges & returns” doesn’t offer exchanges?????? May as well change the name of it and tell people they’re better off keeping their item if it’s a gift or ANYTHING they got a “perk discount” on, because they won’t be able to get the same product again without paying more for it.
