I was so excited when the Carlisle store opened a new store across the street from their current location. Finally, Albuquerque was going to get a Whole Foods like Denver and Phoenix-spacious, good selections, friendly people. They opened-I was excited!
Now, I get that the first few weeks are rough with opening. However, let’s keep in mind, it wasn’t like they were retraining an entire new staff. They were just moving across the street. Maybe it’s more complicated than I think, but here we are, two months out from their grand opening and it’s a disaster. The selection is terrible, the produce is never out and if it is, it’s terrible. The service, I’m just blown away because part of the experience of Whole Foods IS the service. Well, if I could write a -5, I would. I walked up to the prepared foods counter and despite there being three people behind the counter, no one. I mean no one asked to help me and I stood there for about 2-3 minutes until I walked away and thought to myself, “you all are so busy setting up or getting caught up that you don’t even see the people around you who need help.” I finally walked away. Here is the best part - I get to the checkout and there’s one person checking out people and no one to be found but the poor guy who’s in charge of six self-checkout stations. I Inquired about the possibility of pulling somebody off the floor since we were all waiting (there was a line of 6 of us and NO ONE in the self check out). His response was “we’re really short staffed we can’t do anything.”
Whole Foods corporate, I’m talking to you. You need to make changes because this is a reflection of your leadership and customer service. I hope you read this because if in fact, you are short staffed, hire people. Treat the Albuquerque customers with the level of service and quality that we deserve. Train your people, bring us high quality products and staff your stores.
