Addressing Safety Concerns at Port Orange Walmart: A Call for Action
Introduction:On January 23rd or 24th, 2025, I experienced an incident at the Port Orange Walmart due to defective shopping carts. This location primarily serves an elderly community, including my 82-year-old father and his 90-year-old girlfriend. The carts pose a hazard, and I feel it is necessary to bring attention to this issue to prevent injuries and ensure a safer shopping experience for all.
The Incident:During my visit, I attempted to retrieve a cart and found many were rusty, jammed together, and difficult to separate. As I pulled one loose, it suddenly broke free, striking me in the leg and gut, nearly injuring my finger. The impact left me with two large bruises, each 6 to 8 inches long.
The Aftermath:I reported the incident to Walmart staff, spending 30-40 minutes filing a formal report. The manager assured me it would be submitted through their third-party system and that I would receive a copy via email. However, I have not received any follow-up or the promised incident report.
Community Impact:Port Orange Walmart serves many elderly customers who may struggle with defective carts. If these issues persist, the risk of injury remains high, particularly for those with limited mobility. My elderly family members shop here regularly, and I am deeply concerned for their safety, as well as that of others.
Call to Action:I urge Walmart to take immediate action by:
