This store has gone so far downhill over the past two or three years.

First, the staff that they hired are completely tuned out, or mean, or dismissive. Especially the afternoon and evening staff. No longer is anyone at this store helpful….Except the workers that are there around 6am-7am. Basically get up early if you want any customer service here.
Forget about trying to return your bottles and cans! About 75% of the time the bottle and can machines are broken or full, and then you have to go inside the store to customer service, ask them to page someone who can come out and fix the machine for you, and some of the time that person doesn’t even know how to fix the machine and they have to go ask someone else
And of course that’s the customer’s fault, not ShopRite’s.
Then last year they got rid of shopping baskets altogether, I had extensive conversations with both security and with customer service about the baskets and the story I kept getting was that customers were stealing them, and they were too expensive to replace.
And of course that’s the customer’s fault, not ShopRite’s.
So they just stopped replacing the baskets and forcing everyone to use carriages. I thought I would just shop with a shopping bag and then take everything out at the cashier, (cause, you know, I’m honest) Then they put up signs saying that’s not allowed.
And of course that’s the customer’s fault, not ShopRite’s.
(It is allowed at the Stop and Shop several blocks away to shop with your reusable bag and take those things out and scan them at the cashier-I even double checked with their management)
And when you fill out those surveys on the ShopRite receipt or call the main number, they are no help either.
Ultimately, I’ve just stopped shopping at this ShopRite because it’s clear that the family that runs it has no interest in improvement. Shopwrong.
I am grateful for the Stop & Shop around the corner, where the management and staff always answer my questions, and they may not have as many shopping baskets as there were before Covid, but at least they still have them! And if you must go to ShopRite, go to the one in Manchester, it’s like night and day compared to this one in East Hartford!
