Tiger on Sundays.
Jordan in the Finals.
Jeter in the Playoffs.
And now Taj sculpting a beard.
I arrived at Reesha 30 minutes earlier than my appointment, punctuality is important to me, and was surprised when they could start my cut early.
I had Taj, and at first meet, I wasn’t sure what to think. I told him what I wanted, bald shave on the head and a faded beard. His response, as he pointed to the top of my beard, “short” then the bottom “long”. I said, “yep” not sure if Taj truly grasped what I was asking for, but I was willing to trust the process.
The cut started with a beard trim, a frantic Edward Scissorhands pace to start, making me immediately nervous. I quickly realized I need not worry, Taj was just in his element.
For the next hour, no words were spoken aside from the occasional “look” as Taj would hold the mirror up to see his work, which I understand, I don’t think Michelangelo spoke much while he was painting the Sistine Chapel.
Taj’s extreme focus and determination was apparent as other co-workers attempted to communicate with Taj, but there was no success, Taj was locked in on one thing and one thing only, creating a sculpted beard masterpiece. And that he did.
When the beard was to Taj’s liking (he made sure I approved but who am I to question an Icon), he moved up to my already balding head. It started with a 2-3 minute hot menthol towel, followed by warm shaving cream, followed by another 2-3 minutes of the towel, then the final layer of shaving cream, before Taj meticulously straight bladed my scalp with the precision of a brain surgeon. As I watched with admiration, Taj’s intense focus, I’m not sure I ever saw him blink. After about 25 minutes spent shaving my head, a 7 million PSI air compressor was used to clean away and stragglers, possibly being blown to the neighboring county.
Another mirror check, a quick straight blade shave of my neck and Taj let me know that he was done, “good”, he said.
I checked out the finished product, extremely delighted, gave Taj a 30 dollar tip and left the barber shop, immediately calling everyone I could think of to tell them about my experience.
I do not live in the area, otherwise I would be making this a monthly experience.
Can’t recommend enough.
