I bought one of the few remaining new 2024 V8 Grand Cherokee L Summits last summer down in Phoenix, AZ, as that dealership was the only one on the West Coast with the color combination I wanted. I noticed as I drove away that the Alignment wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t terrible, but not perfect. I had the same experience when I bought my 2009 Challenger R/T brand new as well.
Anyway, I took my Jeep to Rairdon’s at 2,000 miles for an Oil Change, and an issue with the front right CV Joint clicking when turning. I know there’s really no “Break In” period with today’s engines, but hey, I’m a car guy, and at the time I thought this would be my third and final 5.7 V8. Hooray to Dodge for bringing back the Hemi for the Charger in 2026!
Rairdon’s performed an alignment as well, and it was worse after. Parts were ordered under the Warranty for the clicking CV Joint, so Meghan up front kindly offered a 2nd alignment when I brought the Jeep back up to have those parts installed. Sadly, the alignment was still off considerably after such (was pulling hard Right).
So at 9x miles, I brought the Jeep back up to Rairdon’s for another Oil change, and paid $360 for a 4-wheel alignment, having been annoyed for the last 7x miles. When picking it up I asked to speak to the Service Manager. Matt Hodges stopped what he was doing, came out of his office, shook my hand, and was incredibly professional. He gave me his card and told me to contact him directly if there were still problems.
I left feeling confident that Matt would stand by his department’s work, but unfortunately, I knew before I got back to Highway 405 that now the Jeep was pulling hard Left, opposed to hard Right. I would have immediately turned around and gone back, but it was Easter weekend, and I needed my vehicle to visit family for the Holiday.
I’d like to pause for a sec and mention I am partially to blame for having to have it aligned a total of three times up to this point. When you call Rairdon’s main line, there’s an option in the call-tree for unresolved issues. I never selected this option, but rather just made additional appointments, as I didn’t want to escalate or get any Techs in trouble. I worked at Ace Hardware’s rental department in college and know from first-hand experience mechanical components can be finicky things. And with 405 being a parking lot throughout most business hours, road testing can be a challenge. Regardless, I should have used this “Select 2 if Your Issue Wasn’t Resolved during Your First Service Appointment” option.
Back to the story. I sent Matt an email, and eventually we spoke on the phone. His professionalism remained, and he asked if I could bring it back up and we go on a quick drive so I could show him exactly what the Jeep was doing. During that ride, he immediately acknowledged the alignment was bad, never once trying to downplay the issue. I left the Jeep overnight, and his Techs ended up having to do three more total adjustments during this “Fourth Alignment”. We road-tested the Jeep after such, and I was giddy to finally have my new Ride running straight! It’s a night and day difference, and I love my 24’ Summit even more now as a result.
Thanks Matt, Really Appreciate Your Efforts!
