I stopped into the Petco in Allentown, PA yesterday to pick up a few more supplies for an aquarium I am putting together. We recently adopted an axolotl and have been counting on Petco for most of our parts and supplies. A nice woman named Megan helped me in the aquatics department.
Megan was very knowledgeable about setting up aquariums and even how to best care for axolotls. I could see Megan cares about the animals in the store and those belonging to the customers. Megan also helped me walk around to the things I would need to get, talked with me about the pros and cons of different setups, and answered a ton of questions that I had. I didn't feel at all rushed.
When Megan saw that I was going to be outlaying a good amount of money for the items, she mentioned the paid program and the discounts and such. I've worked in retail in the past and I had coworkers who would push programs on customers, even when it didn't make sense for the customer and wasn't in their best interest. Megan was thoughtful about it and she presented the option when she could see the value for me.
I'm not always in the Allentown area, but when I am, if I need anything aquatic, I'll definitely be choosing Petco and I'd be really happy to have Megan help me again.
In general, the aquatics department in that store was the best I've seen at any of the local Petco stores. Everything was clean, organized, and well stocked. Most importantly, the fish tanks were incredibly clean and well kept.
