This is the only grocery store I’ve ever been to where I feel unashamedly unwelcomed or profiled the 3x I’ve been here. Not sure why considering Asians have one of the lowest crime rates, I’ve never stolen from here (don’t even carry a purse/bag with me), I don’t act suspiciously, and I dress casually but presentably. So I’m not sure why a lot of employees act so unfriendly (mostly the uppity acting / looking ones in produce for some reason), staring and not even smiling or saying hi when I make eye contact. and also the security guards obviously following and hovering. Some employees are cool tho (rly didn’t wanna bring race into this but it’s the POC employees who I noticed are the cool ones who are nice to me). But damn, my last visit a couple days ago was horrible! I bought a couple items at self checkout and when I turned around to walk out, the self checkout lady was staring me down with not even a hint of a smile as if she personally disliked me or suspected me of doing something bad… and didn’t say the standard ‘thank you, have a good day’ that every worker at every other grocery store says when you leave. I will add we ran into each other in the bathroom earlier and she definitely did not look like she was happy to see me in there lol?? Not sure what her problem is, and she prob instructed the guards to keep a close eye on me, but idk why this store is so paranoid and or why it even has so much security considering it’s a very low crime area by preschools and all customers in there looked completely normal? The only reasons I can think of for being treated this way is I do have a slight “alt” appearance (esp when surrounded by a bunch of extra normal looking ppl) but it is far from extreme, and also I look much younger than I actually am and don’t look like I’m in the same income bracket as most of the other shoppers.. so maybe I look like a hooligan or peasant in their eyes ? 😂 Or it might be because throughout my life I noticed I am randomly disliked by some older women for no apparent reason. I’m shy, timid, quiet, respectful, and not bitchy or rude so I’m only assuming they dislike me bc they feel threatened. ANYWAY.. pls try to be more friendly and welcoming even to those who do not look like the ideal customer and please cool it on the paranoia!
