I’ve been seeing Nick for the better part of 20 years. When I was younger, my dad started taking me to get father/son haircuts at Nick’s salon when he was down at 14 Mile and Ryan back in the early 2000’s. As I grew, I tried other barbers. I moved away for college and out of state for my first position post university. I eventually moved back, and my significant other and I started getting haircuts at beauty school educational facilities on recommendations from friends. In the end, however, each place that cut my hair couldn’t hold a candle to Nick. He’s a master at every aspect of his craft. I’ve never had to go back to get things trimmed up, he always cuts it right the first time, regardless of how long or deranged my hair was. Each time I sit down in his chair, the care he takes and the concentration with which he practices his art always amazes me. The conversation flows naturally, and I’ve never felt awkward talking to him like I have at other places. Going to see Nick is a treat in and of itself. I don’t know if he’ll still be working when I have children, but as soon as they’re old enough to need haircuts, I’ll absolutely be taking them to Nick.
