I love this costume shop, but this will be kind of a controversial conversation but it's important to have and share with customers so people will know about the world around us:
I moved away from Memphis a long time ago, but if I needed anything to wear, my mom and I always came here.
one time a few days before Halloween, I wanted to come in to get a last minute costume.
the purge was big at the time (the movie) and I wanted to get an LED light up mask and get a fake gun. I asked them if they had any, and the owner told me with a very concerned look that he had a few but he was honestly afraid of me (black woman) endangering myself due to the culture in America today.
I was a little confused cause I was wondering how this older white man knew anything about police brutality and such, but he was absolutely right. it was probably not the smartest idea or safest thing for me to do, even for Halloween. For him to even have that consideration really made me feel more valued as a human than as a customer. he could've easily gotten my money but he refused. so I wanted to just leave that review and I hope everything is well! looks like it..
