I recently had a cashier leave a $40 item (jeans) out of my bag. I believe when she took my purchases to another register to remove the security tags that she accidentally left the jeans and they didn’t end up coming home with me. Either that, or she started a new bag and only handed me one bag when I left. I called the store after realizing an item was left behind and felt pretty dismissed by the person who answered the phone. I understand that some people who are dishonest may use this as a tactic to get a refund or a free item, but I legitimately did not receive something I paid for.
I was told that they would give my number to loss prevention and someone would be in touch with me. No one called so I called back again and was told there really wasn’t much that they could do for me and that security footage would need to be reviewed, but that takes place in another facility and is outsourced and that they’re super busy. I wasn’t given much hope that they would ever take the time to call me and the manager was apologetic, but it didn’t get me any closer to getting my item back or a replacement.
I ended up coming back into the store, purchased the identical jeans over again, and am pretty confident they were the exact jeans that I already paid for that ended up back on the rack…
Loss prevention is apparently only to prevent and protect their losses not yours.
I will still shop here, but I will have to be a lot more diligent about watching the cashier and checking my bags before I leave.
