We went there during a long weekend (President's Day). We got there on Saturday and were stunned by the big crowd. We were told this was their busiest weekend ever and that it was even more crowded at other resorts. (Big Bear had over 1,000 reservations for that day).It was our first time going, and we had a great time. Not only kids (up to 12yo) ski for free (a great deal for those who don't need to rent the material), but the staff is super friendly and very helpful in every aspect. It's a 5 hours drive from Los Angeles, so plan ahead (Ericks bakery in Bishop is a must-see).They close at 4, so no night session, which means that when you show up the next day, you will be greeted by all new fresh snow.Since it is very family oriented, it's not as crowded as other skis resorts. Perfect for beginners or cautious skiers because there is enough space for you to move with no fear of bumping into anyone. Their cafeteria food is descent (pick the chili if you can). Masks are encouraged inside unless you are fully vaccinated but not reinforced. To summarize, you get the same snow as if you were in Mammoth, minus the stress. However, when we checked, the adult tickets were less expensive at Mammoth, which means that, though the kids skied for free, we ended up paying more than if you had gone to Mammoth, but, given the positive experience, it was worth it.
