Very bad return service!!! On 02/25/25, I encountered a terrible return service experience. The staff member assisting me was a young woman. She only scanned a pot lid holder and a drawer organizer and then told me that since these items were not on the receipt, she would not continue scanning the other receipts. I requested that she continue scanning the other unopened items, but she refused and called her supervisor. Then, she insisted that I had to find and mark each item on the receipt myself before they would process the return.
I had seven receipts with around 300 purchased items. The IKEA staff could have easily located the items for return by scanning them, but instead, they demanded that I manually match each one against the nearly 300 items across the seven receipts, or they would refuse the return. I had never encountered such an unreasonable request before, and their attitude was extremely bad.
I asked to speak with a manager. The supervisor claimed that she was the manager. When I requested to speak to her superior, she reluctantly brought in another manager. After talking with the two staff members, this manager still insisted that I manually check the hundreds of items on the receipts myself. I explained to her:
“There are hundreds of items across these seven receipts. You can easily find the items for return using the scanner. If I have to find them myself, how am I supposed to do that? If even your machine cannot find them, how can I?”
This would mean that for each returned item, I would have to go through all the receipts containing hundreds of items. Eventually, the manager very reluctantly used the scanner, and in no time, almost all the items were successfully returned.
What a terrible service experience!
