I mostly use this Hy-Vee for its pharmacy - specifically, I started using this pharmacy about 8 years ago when I was living reasonably close by, and was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the customer service.
I don't know if it's a "pharmacy thing" or a "me thing" but normally, or at least in the past, pharmacy staff had always been either awkward, aloof, rude, or cold... or some confusing combination of those traits, but over a very small time period the staff at the Hy-Vee Pharmacy in Eagan won me over with charm, little things like remembering my name (I've got quite a few meds to pick up every month so I'm basically a "regular") and just being friendly while remaining professional, so I have kept using them as my pharmacy when I lived in downtown Minneapolis, or now that I live in West Saint Paul.
The Hy-Vee in general is clean and well stocked, though as one should expect, there aren't many "specialty items" - just mainstream stuff for day to day life, mostly focused on food (a thing people have to eat in order to not die).
I have noticed that the prices on many things are slightly higher (usually between .45¢ and 1$) in Eagan than they are at the Target in West Saint Paul - idk if that's location based or what, just something I noticed.
But yeah, back to the pharmacy - where I live now is less than one block from Walgreens on Robert St, but I wouldn't change my mind on my pharmacy since the value of having the kind, considerate, efficient staff who I have developed personal and professional relationships with over the past seven(ish) years unless there came some catastrophe under which I was no longer able to choose Hy-Vee.
...and it's a small thing too, but being a real grocery store with competitive prices is a noteworthy advantage. I almost always purchase grapefruit juice, milk, eggs, and a few other staples while I am waiting for last minute scripts to get filled. I'd pay significantly higher prices at Walgreens or CVS, and most stores of that scale don't even carry fresh grapefruit juice, which is a breakfast staple for my wife and I.
Attached photo is of juice I picked up on Tuesday, at $3.18, cheaper than local Wal-Mart or Target even (despite the fact that Hy-Vee is in Eagan, an affluent suburb).
