I experienced two awe-inspiring visits to this paradise of altruistic endeavors in the past two weeks. The first entailed an early ranch supper with the husband/wife ranch manager, ranch foreman, Bob King, and three absolutely amazing wounded veterans.
The staff members are lifelong , experienced ranchers who could easily star in any wholesome Western film without preparation. They not only look the part, but have done it all! In addition, they are some of kindest and most gentle people I have ever met.
The wounded warriors had learned many skills at HSR in addition to cattle and horsemanship. One had fashioned a most beautiful pair of supple leather show chaps, and another had created one of the most gorgeous pair of spurs I had ever seen. These men were all U.S. Marines, who had seen serious action in the Middle East. They spoke enthusiastically and effusively about how their experiences at HSR have been their healing therapy.
On my second visit, , I attended and participated in a leather arts class, and was inspired and awed by the teaching skills of instructors Ken and Bob, as well as by their gentle patience.
I was told that anyone interested in the purpose, goals, or activities that are focus of HSR may request to do similar visits.
My wife and I will definitely be attending their Annual Fundraiser Dinner on June 1, 2019.
Since my introduction to HSR by former colleagues, I have made it my goal to tell as many people as possible about the amazing things done there, and the transformations they have brought about in wounded warriors and urban children. I will be a lifelong supporter of this most deserving non-profit!
