I have been shopping at Hey Betty for, so far as I can figure, at least 20 years. I credit it and its owner with inspiring in me a life-long love of vintage clothing. Unlike Pittsburgh's second-hand stores, it doesn't hawk costumey kitsch. Rather, the owner continually curates a wide selection of true mid-century attire - the things that everyday people wore every day in the 40's, 50's and 60's. The clothing and accessories he carries are sometimes pushing 70 years-old (if not more) and yet nearly everything he has on the racks remains in beautiful condition. The shop itself is small, and decked out from floor to ceiling in mid-century goodies. Hats, jewelry, shoes, coats, umbrellas, gloves - heck, even ruffled panties - are among what Hey Betty has to offer, all displayed in such a way that you kind of want it all at once so you apartment can look just like the shop. Or, maybe that's just me :). At this point in my life, and with hey Betty as part of my inspiration, I've shopped vintage stores all over the world and for me it still tops the list in terms of quality, charm and pricing. I am so glad I live in a city that is home to a store like Hey Betty. It is a treasure.
