I love Guitar Center, especially the small store in San Ysidro. It saves me a lot of trouble from having to drive up to the big La Mesa store. They have a pretty substantial selection of guitars, guitar strings, quite a few keyboards, pedal effects, cables, and microphones.
The staff is always super friendly, and they greet you right when you come in. There are also some instructor rooms, which is pretty cool. You can actually come and take lessons from the staff. That’s a nice setup. I’ve never taken lessons here, but if I were motivated to do guitar, I definitely would.
They actually have a pretty decent selection of books as well. One of the toughest things is finding quality books to learn music from. If you’re just doing synthesis waterfall on YouTube, this won’t be a big deal. But if you want to advance and play sheet music, this library is pretty decent. It’s not as big as Allen’s Music in La Mesa, but that’s a whole other level.
As a beginning pianist and violinist, while working on my YouTube channels, I definitely appreciate the staff. Being able to come in, try different pieces, and get ideas from musicians is super helpful. As a fiction writer, I get inspiration just from sitting here and hearing people talk. The ideas for cool characters come fast and easy here. I don’t know why—it just is. It’s super inspirational.
I was able to play on a Yamaha Portable Grand DGX-670. It was nice to try a different sound. I have the Roland FP-60X at home, but the sound isn’t as stunning as I’d like. I have to hook it up to external speakers for full power. It was super nice to actually try things in-store to give me ideas.
I bought some XLR and 1/4-inch TRS cables here before when I damaged mine. It was super nice to be able to come down, make the purchase, and get right back to what I was doing. No waiting for Amazon here. That’s why I love these stores. Thank you for sticking it out.
I own a pair of Guitar Center Kustom 50 PAs. I never would’ve found these gems if it hadn’t been for Guitar Center. They’re super small, but they deliver plenty of room-filling power. They’re not super acoustically accurate, but for the size and price, I won’t complain. Anything else would be 10x the price or more.
Tons of easy parking and right across the street from Las Americas shopping mall. It’s fun to experience the style of different Guitar Centers and see their options.
Thank you, Guitar Center San Ysidro.
