12/13/2024- I went in to add money to a prepaid card for online Christmas purchases, I had 2 $100 bills, one was new and one was from 1985, the “manager” that was there at around 2pm, refused to take the 40 year old bill and told me she had no way of verifying the bill, no pen as she said “they don't work” and said (with a crappy attitude) she could have the cops come to verify it, I said “do what you need to”, I received this directly from US Bank about 3 months ago, along with 4 others (which I’ve had no problems with using anywhere else), because I assume they are more trained and used methods to check that she refused to do. I asked the other clerk after she walked away, how do the police verify it, do they have a scanner in their pocket? Something a well known chain store should have on hand for this reason. I have no reason to suspect it is not real, as I received it directly from the bank, and everything I have now looked up online, show it’s real. I guess I will have to take it back to the bank & have it exchanged for a new one. I feel any retail space should have a sufficient way to check bills if they suspect, especially a 40 year old bill they are not familiar with seeing often, or maybe train staff better if they are involved in taking money. I was trained when I worked in retail.
