Yesterday, (August 29,2024)I went to CVS Pharmacy @ Crosstown in Tupelo MS at approximately 4:25 PM. I'd received a text saying that my prescription was ready for pickup. When I arrived,
there were three people ahead of me in line. When I reached the counter the cashier told me that I would have to wait while they processed my GoodRX coupon. After waiting approximately 15 minutes, he, the cashier, called me to the register and told me that my prescription was ready for pickup. Then he allowed two (2) white women to cut in line ahead of me
and served them. I am a 70 year old Black man
who was born and reared in Lee County MS. I just stood there and took it. That experience took me back to another time, the 1950's and1960's. I was livid but held my peace in order not to make a scene. I was wrong. I should have made a scene. I was being treated as less than, less than!!!
Never again will I accept that blatantly racist behavior from anyone without recourse. I urge people of goodwill all over this area, especially people of color, to let the management of CVS Pharmacy know that we, the people, will not, repeat, will not stand for last century's cultural norms to become today's.
Sincerely,
John Thomas Morris, Jr .
