Fairly mediocre experience for a high price. While this place was hyped up in the reviews here, I didn't feel like it lived up to the expectations.
First, when I walked in, I felt as if the staff was somewhat rude while asking if I had an appointment. Just kind of abrupt, almost accusing.
While I did appreciate how my stylist made sure to ask what I wanted - and changed my booking to a lower priced option when she realized I didn't need that much done - the haircut itself wasn't much better that something from a competitor, despite costing significantly more.
Although I try not to take points off for staff not being "friendly," I was annoyed how my stylist made little effort to talk to me, but would chat away with the other stylists and patrons. I'm fine if we don't talk, but at least concentrate on the haircut. It's just disrespectful to avoid talking to the person you're actively interacting with. I know this sounds stupid, but I guarentee you, if you were in that same situation, you would feel the same way.
Adding to that, while the conversations the barbers engaged in weren't innappropiate neccessarily, I would be lying if I said I wasn't slightly uncomfortable with what was being said. It was just kind of odd and off putting.
While the establishment was clean, I was a little put off by the radio, which while it played fine music, was interrupted every twenty minutes or so to advertise the shop's franchising opportunities, emphasizing how great of an opportunity it is. I understand you want to grow your buisness, but that just comes off as tacky.
When it finally came to pay the excessive price. The reccommended tips were extremely high as well. If I remember correctly, the lowest option was $10, which, on a $40 haircut, is 25%. That is absolutely ridiculous. While I'm all for paying employees fairly, that fair wage needs to come from the shop charging $40 for a haircut, not the consumer on their way out. I still tipped $7, which by normal standards, is quite high, but my stylist still had the nerve to say something like "okay then." Had I given a similar tip at a competitor, the stylist would've given me their card and asked me to return, but having the expectation of a tip? That cemented my decision not to return.
Over all, I was dissapointed with my experience here, and will thus have to continue my quest for a better haircut.
