I've been going here for about a year now, and it's been so good! I've been working with Kevin who is awesome, gives great advice both during the session and for exercising at home, and is a super clear, encouraging, and knowledgeable teacher. It feels great to see yourself making so much progress (being able to lift way more, do more reps, generally feeling more energetic, not getting tired as easily, also I can touch my toes now! Thanks Kevin!) while having a good time throughout. Two thumbs up!!
Update: About a year ago, I transitioned from personal training to the group class (TRAC) which is run by Richard. I was pretty nervous about the change, even though it made sense for me on many level, in large part since Kevin was so great and a lot of why I loved coming to the gym. I’m happy to report that I’m in fact happier than ever!!
It’s really nice having a stable group of people you see every week and make progress with together; long term I think this is the most sustainable way to keep my motivation strong. And I am so impressed with Richard and feel very lucky to have him as my new trainer. He is incredibly good at keeping track of everyone, so even though it’s a group class, you get tons of individual feedback. He clearly is highly knowledgable about fitness and is very responsive to your performance in-class, as well as questions you bring in. For example, my friend’s hypermobility led to some issues with her deadlift, which even in a group setting Richard quickly noticed and addressed with 1-on-1 help during class. These kinds of adjustments are also great to see when you’re not the one getting helped, since it gives you a better understanding of the exercise and the movements that go into it.
I also know that when I bring up an issue I have with an exercise, or if I have some physical problem that might impact my performance, Richard will take it seriously and help me with my posture/weight choice/whatever, or modify the program for me if necessary. So on a practical level I think I’m getting the absolute most possible out of a one-hour group class.
On a less practical level, Richard and the other staff I have interacted with are so friendly, supportive, and professional. Richard especially is so encouraging and always makes me feel great about the progress I’ve made, even on those days when I’m inclined to feel down about it. That is really important to me as someone that had mostly negative experiences in the past with fitness related activities. When I think of exercising now, I think about the supportive and welcoming environment I have at TRAC; going to class is one of the highlights of my week. Thank you Richard for all your help over the past year+; I’m looking forward as always to my next class!
