The Maxwell at Highland Creek Apartments in Charlotte

Update: I haven’t received one single email or phone call from them regarding the situation weeks ago- like I said they don’t care about solving any issues as long as they get your money!I don’t recommend living here. The new management that has taken over is very unprofessional and incompetent. We pay a monthly fee for amenities which includes valet trash pick up, which half the time the trash doesn’t get picked up or will go days without being picked up. I had time where I traveled out of town, came back to my trash still outside. Not only was my trash not picked up, but it looked like an animal got into my trash can, there was trash sprawled all over the entry way. I work 13+ hours a shift as a RN having the struggle of trying to catch the leasing office open during the day because I can never get a hold of any staff via phone calls about these issues- no one ever answers. No matter how many messages I leave or times I’ve visited the office, there’s always an issue. There is dog poop everywhere. I had relatives visit and they made a comment about it- how embarrassing? The smell of marijuana wreaks throughout the area. The security is ridiculous and no, there are no cameras around. Several months ago there were a few car break ins, my car included. They don’t bring it to any residents attention when safety or vandalism issues arise. Some nights I’m sleeping and I can hear gunshots. I had an ant infestation out of nowhere. Ants in my bathroom, all over the tubs, sink, ants all over my clothes in my closet, ants all over my kitchen counters, furniture, floors, etc. and had to wait almost a week to get the pest control to come and spray my place. While feeling uncomfortable sleeping in my apartment, I was forced to sleep at my friends home for a week. I’ve also had the hardest time trying to retrieve a copy of my leasing agreement since the beginning of this year. The access link in the residential portal denies me access since the new management. I was told since the property is under new management that I would need to request access and the wait would be up to 30 days. Well, it’s been 4 months and I still do not have access to my lease agreement which is absurd. Any time I have packages delivered I have to go days before being able to retrieve them because the leasing office fails to give me a retrieval access code. And when I bring it to their attention or try calling the office, I never get ahold of anyone or I’ll catch an attitude from one of the staff, China, who is short with me and constantly cuts me off when I’m talking, tries to talk to me in a demeaning way as if I have no knowledge of how to pick up a package. I remember this happened previously, she went and got one of the old staff members and he told her yes they had to provide us with a code and showed her how to give residents the code. So, because she didn’t have knowledge on how to or didn’t feel like helping me get my package, I have to deal with an attitude from her? This has happened more than once. Please save your money and lease elsewhere. My interactions with everyone including Jackie, the new assistant manager, and China have been awful and disappointing. They are argumentative and do not know how to handle situations in a rational manner, the lack of professionalism is unbelievable. I don’t see this place being under their management for much longer at this rate. I never had any issues with the staff prior to this new management. My experience was nothing short of wonderful with the previous staff prior to the new changes. I will not be renewing my lease and in fact I wanted to break my lease but of course I have no access to my lease agreement, still, while having only a month left of my term here. They expected me to pay $8,000+ to break my lease without even having access or being able to read over the fine print of my OWN leasing agreement. Do not lease here please. I stayed at Avalon Highland Creek, right across the street, had a much more pleasant experience. Although, a bit pricier, I never had any issues which was well worth it.

I loved it before new management stepped in. But they can not honestly call this place “luxury”. These people are a huge joke and aren’t to fond of assisting people of color with basic needs like getting rid of mold growth coming from the vents. And noise complaints. Instead, they would like to make finding a solution your problem when in fact it isn’t. So think about that while you’re reading this review. I never had to explain simple logic and reasoning to a group of people before in regards to fixing a problem you, yourself didn’t create. (THEY HAVE MOLD COMING FROM THE VENTS) Whist paying money for said problem. Then on top of that beg you for money out of your pocket to fix the problem. Turn around and weasel out of repaying back to you. It’s the most sleazy money grabbing tactic I’ve ever had the misfortune of dealing with. DONT MOVE HERE. Never mind that they took parking away to put in those ridiculous awnings that no one is really using nor playing for. If you are indeed looking at this place. It’s not worth it. Unless you’re just into smelling trash. Listening to people argue in the parking lot at late hours. Have issues with stolen packages. Car break-ins. Smelling weed and seeing drug deals happen from your balcony. People that don’t live at the apartment hanging outside the parking lot, hotboxing the car. Just crap that isn’t worth paying for. Honestly, there are five other apartments within a 5min drive that are 1000% better than this place. Absolute garbage staff, garbage company -1000000/10 if this gets taken down I will post the certified mold inspection that I had to pay for out of pocket that the Maxwell NEVER Reimbursed me for. For some reason Maxwell does not do a good job of keeping up with their tenets info if that helps you over look this place.

My boyfriend has been living here for almost two years. His car has been broke into a total of FOUR times now. The first two were different cars, but he recently he got a new Kia and it was broke into on September 6th. And now it was broke into again on September 23rd. Both times his windows were busted and he had to pay $200+ to get them fixed two times now. This complex doesn’t care about their residents or their property because in the last few months there have been car break ins, and they’re just now installing new cameras. He should’ve been given a garage for FREE due to the lack of urgency from this complex. He’s been calling all day to get his key for the garage and got no luck, hopefully his car doesn’t get broken into tonight. As much money as residents pay to live here, you’d think they would care more and would want residents to feel safer. I would not recommend staying here at all.

This complex is a joke!!! The ppl on here with positive reviews must be getting paid to lie. No one ever answers the phone, the dumpsters are unsafe with yellow tape blocking it off, we pay for trash pickup but been having to walk out trash to the dumpster bc it goes days without pickup, maintenance and Pest Control are no responsive. It's a total scam!!

Hi! I have lived in The Maxwell at Highland Creek Apartments for 8 years now & LOVE it here!!!😃Management and the office staff, especially China Winn have been wonderful and very helpful! The maintenance staff has been great and on the ball when repairs are needed. The grounds are always kept clean and well manicured. Location is great with easy access to highway 485 and 10 minutes from everything including two malls! At least a couple banks and restaurants are close enough to walk to and many more 10 minutes away! My only complaint that I have is that in about three months I’m going to have to leave with tears in my eyes. 😢🤣

Moving sight unseen can be stressful but China made it seamless and went the extra mile to ensure that my apartment was taken care of upon move-in. This community is friendly and very well kept - the reviews do not lie! China was so kind, caring, professional, and easy to work with. She made my first apartment move-in exciting and even gave me a goodie bag upon move-in (good stuff too!). The complex and apartments turned out to be much nicer than I ever expected and the amenities are great! Thank you to China and the Maxwell at Highland Creek staff. Keep up the great work!

From the very first conversation, she went above and beyond, helping me navigate the timing of my lease, walking me through all available options, and ensuring I felt completely confident about moving into a unit sight unseen. I want to start off by saying this apartment is in such a great location and everything is in close vicinity. I just recently took a job and needed a place to rent as quickly as possible. China was able to help me out by ensuring that I would have a quick move-in date. She did not hesitate to answer any questions that I had and was so polite. She definitely went out of her way to make sure my move-in was as stress-free as possible. I am excited to be able to call this home and also know that I have people like her that are here to help! Maxwell is like a hidden gem. Another resident I met referred me and everything about this apartment communtiy has been great so far.I had bad taste dealing with few other leasing office, except here. Special thanks to China as she guided me through everything and made it easy even though my personal situation wasn't straightforward.Plus she got be a unit with beautiful view. So thank you.Rest of the team were amazing as well.

Moving is hard, but working with exceptional professionals like China at the Maxwell really makes a difference. She was kind enough to help with multiple site visits and tours until we identified the perfect space for our new home.Once committed, she walked us through the next steps, including transition from one management company over to the new one. Her attention to detail helped ensure nothing was overlooked.On arrival for move-in, China greeted me with a warm smile and welcome bag from the Maxwell.It was a good decision to select this property, work with China, and her management/maintenance teams!

Hello,I have only been a tenant for less than a month and I can already foresee it being a horrible experience. The leasing office is so hard to reach due to lack of staff, and whoever is there does not reach back out for correspondence whenever I have a question. I paid rent with a money order before the 5th, and somehow my balance is still showing owed and I was also charged a late fee. I reached out through phone, email, and no response. I decided to go in office and instead I was met by a fill in who could not even help me with this situation. I’m not sure who to reach out to at this point, and this was my only option of getting some type of response. Beautiful area, beautiful place but the leasing team needs help and it shows in the lack of organization/money management.

I toured with China this Saturday and I loved it. I was able to see a one bedroom and their amenities on site. Lots of people are friendly in that neighborhood because while we were touring so many people spoke and said hello to us. Outside of their dumpster, the property is really well kept and China did a great job taking time out of her day to show me a 1 bedroom! She even advised me to come back to see more options that are coming available next week.

Stopped by for an impromptu visit to this beautiful property and was happy to be met with even more beautiful energy from the office staff. As someone who absolutely despises the apartment search process , I have to say, this property’s leasing consultant China Winn is TOP TIER. She’s undoubtedly made this the best tour yet. Her welcoming energy and detailed explanation during this tour was astounding. That along with the smiling faces of current residents interacting with her in passing spoke volumes about this property. 10/10 experience. Highly recommend.

Awesome. We had the nicest experience renting an appartment. China is wonderful, beautiful personality, extremely helpful and very caring. Everyone in the office is helpful. Thank you. If you want a nice location, nice appartment and reasonable prices with awesome office management, try Maxwell at Highland Creek. My wife and and I are very excited about moving to our appartment.

My fiancè and I have been living here for a little over a year now. We recently transferred to a bigger unit, and we LOVE it! The process was smooth from start to finish thanks to China. She was always on top of it, great with communication, and overall such a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend this place, and if you can work with China, I highly recommend it as well!

I’m really disappointed that I’m at the point that I’m leaving a one star review. My boyfriend and I have lived here for over a year and renewed our lease in June. The old management was great, besides one of the maintenance workers (who still works here) that treated me very poorly when working on an issue in my apartment. A couple things to note.1). We are on the ground level. Most units have two doors to get in, one regular door that leads to a patio and then a glass one that leads into the unit. Since we’re on the bottom floor we only have one door, being a glass door. We had spoken to old management about safety concerns around this (lots of break ins in the area, sounds of gunshots at night) and wanted the door changed to a regular door. They told us not only that they would do that, but later told us they had even ordered the new door and would install it once it arrived. Once the management changed during all of this, they said they weren’t going to do that. Even though that promise the old management had made was a BIG reason we renewed our lease here.2). They NEVER answer the phone. Or emails. And usually they’re not even in the office when you need them. The only way I’ve ever been able to speak to someone is catch them on the property to speak to them or put in an emergency maintenence request to get issues fixed.3). Currently our dishwasher is broken. It’s been broken for over a week. We called as soon as it broke and left a message for maintenance. Heard nothing. Went in the next day, they told us that since it was the weekend we’d have to wait until Monday. Come Monday, we hear nothing. I call on Tuesday and don’t reach anyone. While I’m at work a woman leaves a voicemail asking what the issue is (even though I’ve now explained three times what it is). I call back and no one answers (again, of course). Come today (now 9 days after initially calling) my boyfriend goes into the office and talks to someone in there. He’s told once again that it’s the weekend so maintenance will come by Monday. So me, obviously extremely annoyed, calls and leaves an emergency maintenance request explaining how it’s been over a week and someone needs to come by TODAY. Finally one man comes by (the one I wrote about earlier that treated me very poorly) and my boyfriend talks to him explaining the issue while I’m holding our dog in another room. He makes a snarky comment about how dishwashers aren’t an emergency and leaves saying they’ll come back Monday. I’m SO tired of this maintenance team and their complete lack of care. (Edit: No one came by on Monday)4). Our property previously under old management was very well maintained which is another reason we loved it. It felt very clean and cared for. Once management changed, the grass doesn’t get mowed nearly enough. There’s trash and dog poop everywhere. The dumpsters are always overflowing. It’s really sad to see as the care and keeping of the nature on the property is one of the biggest reasons I fell in love with it.5). Our lease renewal fell during the management change. We were given a rate by previous management and new management arrived about a week before our old lease was up. They were telling us that they would NOT be honoring the previous rate we had received. I had to argue that my uncle is a contract attorney that I would get involved for them to finally agree to the rate. Trying to change the rate a WEEK before we’d have to find a new place? Absolutely not.Overall, I really used to love this property. But with the rise in crime in the area and the lack of care of current management and maintenance, I’m not sure we’ll be renewing next year. I feel as though leaving this review is the only way any of the issues I have mentioned will get addressed.I wanted to also quickly mention that the only kind person I’ve ever spoken to on management is China, she at least tries to get things done for us and seems like a really nice person. When she’s not in the office I know my issues won’t be addressed.

China has been so helpful! When I say there was an issue with dumpsters and trash that tenants were causing and she had it resolved in a week of moving in along with minor maintenance fixes in our unit, SHE DID THAT! NOT ONLY was she responsive, and patient with my requests, she did what she said she would, when she said she would! Thank you China!

I have had such a positive experience. Every time I have came in here. Camilla is fantastic. She is super sweet. I am so excited to move in in March. It is clean. The apartment is beautiful. It is right near the highway. They made it a very seamless process for me.update: everyone I have met that works there super nice maintenance is great if there’s ever a problem they come and fix it right away when my lease is up I will definitely stay here and not saying a lot because I move every single year. I still love it here.

Scheduled a tour last minute, they texted me in the morning to confirm and it was confirmed. Drove 30 min for the leasing agent not to give me her name and tell me she wouldn’t show me the 3 bedroom they had bc it was next to the trash and the trash was really bad. Then I asked if she would show me the facility at least and she was like oh it’s just the gym and waved it off and then asked if I wanted to see it and I said don’t worry about bc she’s already wasted enough of my time. Also went to look at the dumpster to see how bad it was. And there was no mess, she was most likely just didn't want to tour which I don’t get why apply for a leasing agent job. Place looked nice, pool was small but leasing agent has horrible service and beyond grateful she showed her colors before applying.

I got denied and I am waiting on my money that I paid to be returned and no one wants to answer the phone now. They sell you the story to apply and that you will get approved but in the end you don’t and you end up paying almost 400 dollars and a 15 donation that I will never see. It is a rip off. I advise people to check there stories out.

The Maxwell is conveniently located near Highland Creek and near everything. The new management is thoughtful and helpful and available whenever questions or concerns arise. They have been very accommodating with any issues that I have had. Sara has gone out of her way to assist me with my concerns. Very friendly staff. I enjoy living there.

Since I've been here she's the only person in the office I like to go through for literally anything. She gets the job done! Really love her. Super outgoing and friendly! I condition this review by admitting I moved here from a part of Atlanta called "Dun-hoody".But this is the best apartment I've ever had and one of the least expensive. I presume the older reviews are talking about the previous owners because everyone in the office and maintenance is so very kind and helpful! Olivia was my leasing agent and she's gone above and beyond to communicate with me through my application process, leading up to move in, and checking in on me after move in! I went into the lobby to get my key copied and a woman in the middle of an email just stopped what she was doing and helped me. The maintenance staff are all clean, friendly and get the job done the first time. My floor was scratched during move in, I emailed at like 7pm that night, and by lunch the next day it was completely replaced! The whole property is kept so clean, my neighbors are great. I would ardently recommend moving here.

I love it here! I was nervous moving here a year ago with some bad reviews but i trusted my instincts and gave it a shot i haven’t regretted it yet and just finished renewing my lease for another year! Kara the property manager is outstanding she is helpful and kind♥️ everyone that has ever helped was great any maintenance issues get resolved quickly (haven’t had many) the apartments are beautiful and great prices!

Updated review - It was great the first year, which is why we extended our lease. We stayed for 2.5 yrs and left in 2020. Management changed twice and this place went downhill. They stopped screening ppl and took anyone. You can smell weed when you step outside. Go elsewhere.=========We recently moved here and have had no issues with the transition. Please note that my review may not be the most accurate or helpful as I am quite new. I just want to share my experience thus far.STAFF & SERVICE - From my initial inquiry to move-in and even now, the line of communication has been exceptional. The ladies in the office are friendly and approachable. Thank God! They've always been prompt in responding to my emails and do return calls in a reasonable time, which I really appreciate.APARTMENT UNIT & SERVICE - As for the apartment, it's a bit small but the square footage was already disclosed to me before I signed the contract. The unit was clean for the most part (I usually do my own cleaning prior to moving in anyway so the little things didn't bother me much). The only issue was the bath tub, which was clogged and did not drain properly. The issue was easily resolved with some cleaning products. In regards to trash pick-up, we haven't had any issues. We were informed trash pick-ups run Monday through Thursday, and since we moved in, every time we put the trash out, the trash is gone by the time we retrieve the trash can. However, the trash service isn't a necessity especially with the dumpster being across the street from us and we don't mind taking out our own trash to save $25 per month. As for the little critters and snakes...I'm NOT a fan of them but I did my research into the community (read several reviews) before I inquired about any vacant units. Unlike some of the reviewers here, I wasn't caught off guard. Besides, I went to law school in Florida so I'm used to having critters running around - not that it's acceptable here- it's just not a big issue for me (at the moment anyway). But there is a snake near the pond and I really hope it doesn't get inside our apartment. (I haven't had time to check out the gym or pool yet. Will update later.)PARKING - The parking lot is well lit with plenty of parking spots and none are assigned.RESIDENTS - The building we live in seems to be occupied by families. To be honest, I'd rather live in a family-oriented community than one occupied by college students. I've also seen some elderly residents as well young adults (mid 30s). One of the elderly residents I talked to said she just renewed her lease. That was a good sign. For the most part, it's pretty quiet, peaceful and clean. We have seen some unsupervised teenagers walking around late at night. So long as it's not habitual or accompanied by vandalism or disruption, it won't be an issue. Having security patrol the area wouldn't hurt. Just a suggestion for management if there isn't already security for the community.LOCATION - This was the primary reason we ultimately decided to live here - for convenience. It's right off of 485 and there are plenty of near by stores and restaurants.Again, this review may be premature and therefore, subject to change. I will provide an update at a later time.

Absolutely enthralled with Maxwell at Highland Creek community!! My husband and I recently bought our first home after spending the last two years at this community. My husband is a engineer with the airlines , so we have rented several apartments in other cities in the past.I can say, without hesitation, we did not have the same enthusiasm while living at other communities. From the timeliness that a maintenance request is completed to the knowledgeable and courteous staff members, at Maxwell at Highland CreekWe have always felt the team members really cared.My family and I would highly recommend this community to anyone who is in need of an apartment home. We have referred a few of our friends that are moving into the area.
