On the 23rd of May 2023, my son Santiago had been a part of the learning experience for about 2 months and I was 35 weeks pregnant with my second son. On that day I took my son Santiago to his one year dental appointment. That morning, as I was leaving the house, we said goodbye to my husband and jokingly said I’m having contractions, Might have the baby today. He looked at me crazy, as I was only 35 weeks pregnant. I did with the doctors always recommend which was drink water and make sure to empty out your bladder. While at the dentist, mid appointment, my contraction started ramping up, significantly!dentist: are you okay?Me: I’m having contractions.Dentist: do you need us to call someone?Me: no! as she helped me fill out paperwork because I was bracing myself. I left the appointment and called my husband crying and saying we needed to go to the hospital. He asked if I wanted him to pick me up. I said no! (I didn’t want to leave my car 35 minutes away.) I then started driving my son to daycare with full on contractions. About 10 minutes into the drive my husband calls to check up on me. We agreed he would shower quickly and head to the daycare to meet me because he was in the middle of mowing the yard. I was still over 20 minutes away and we live about seven minutes away from the daycare. When I got there, Santiago, who is usually good about walking on his own wanted to be carried, and wouldn’t stop crying until I carried him. I’m still having full on contractions and they’re only getting worse. At this point, I know I’m in labor, but I’m in denial because it’s too early. And with my luck, Santiago was out of diapers and wipes, so I had to take those in. And as the unorganized queen I am, I was unorganized that day and didn’t have the wipes and the diapers in a backpack. So I’m carrying my son, half a bag of diapers, and wipes all at once. I get through the first door, and well I forgot the key fob. I couldn’t get in through the second door so I start knocking impatiently. I can see through the glass door, Miss Benisha, smiling at me and then realizing I was in distress. I saw the the smile on her face became a confused look. She pressed the button for me to open the door and come in, but at this point, I couldn’t open the door. Keep in mind, I’m still knocking on the door impatiently with everything in my hands! Miss Benisha then opens the door quickly and I finally said out loud, “I’m in labor” as I practically throw my child on her and drop all the diapers and the wipes on the floor. Miss Kaylee then rushes to me to comfort me as I am now on the floor in the middle of the front office. I was bracing myself when Miss Jayden places a pillow on the floor for my knees. Miss Shanci then asked if I wanted her to call an ambulance. I said no, I’m waiting for my husband. Side note, where is my husband? Why did I beat him to the daycare? Miss Kaylee then sits beside me and starts rubbing my back and comforts me. And then I realized miss Shanci called the ambulance anyway because I could hear them from afar getting closer and closer. They get there and I’m refusing help because all I want is my husband. As I’m questioning why my husband is not there he finally shows up with a confused look as to why the ambulance was there and what was going on and all the people surrounding me. I was in active labor.I am so grateful to have been shown compassion from these beautiful amazing women. They stuck by my side until I left. I was priority. This is why the learning experience is family. I’d tell you the rest of the story but there is a word limit. I did In fact have a little, healthy, premature, 5lb 6 oz baby ready for the world.
