We called another company for an AC tune-up after we noticed the thermostat was "cycling" and we were concerned it might be a problem. The tech showed me a bunch of pictures and numbers and said that my unit has a leak and needs that leak found, repaired, and the system recharged - for $2k+ before things start freezing and getting worse *and more expensive* to repair.
Something didn't seem right, so I called Steve for a second opinion. He came at the end of the same day I called. He ran the system, checked it, went over everything with me and said he thinks it's actually fine. And really, it is. It cools the house, like it always has. He helped explain the numbers the guy was using to justify the leak and showed me real-time the numbers and ranges they should be in - and were. He explained the "cycling" our thermostat showed is just part of the programming (which apparently you can change) so that the unit isn't constantly running and will take breaks even if it hasn't yet hit the set temp. This was appearing on the hottest days of the summer, so it totally makes sense. He was thorough and made sure there wasn't anything wrong and that I was satisfied. The temperature in the house dropped quickly once we turned it on again and while we discussed all of this. Clearly, it works!
I appreciate that Steve is honest, timely, and experienced. He treated me with respect and didn't take advantage of the fact I was ready to pay for a repair. He answered all my questions with respect and I didn't feel unsettled like there was manipulation like with the other company.
In a world full of companies looking to make as much money as possible, game the system, who offer low-cost "AC tune-up" coupons as an excuse to create an expensive, imaginary repair problem, Steve with Spring Creek Heating & Cooling is a breath of fresh climate-controlled air.
