Worth the drive if you are into whimsical artsy things. All made of stone and none of the village buildings are over 5 foot tall. Lots of details to look at. The real house and grounds, landscaping are made with stone also.

I visited Shangri-La on Saturday with a friend, our dogs and my grandson. It's a very cool little attraction. Just something to see as a stop along a multi-stop outing. There were no other people there at the time so we got to explore the...Read More

Great roadside attraction! Awesome that the dream on one retired farmer from the 70's still stands and draws visitors every day! Very cool place to stop!

Really cool little rock village. Supposedly this gentleman gathered rocks from around the world for his creation.

Someones vision made real. A self imagined and engineered city made of quartz stone, brick, mortar, and surely other untold materials. This place is found right off the side of the road and there is plenty of parking at the nearby volunteer fire department. Shangri-La...Read More

I had such a fun time wandering around this free public folk art display. I'd love if there was a QR code for more info and to potentially leave a tip to help maintain the site. While there isn't clear parking, it seemed fine to park...Read More

Amazing miniature stone village. Built by a retired tobacco farmer between 1968-1977. There are 27 miniature buildings built of stone, concrete and arrowheads. At the front of a farm along NC-86 in Prospect Hill, NC. Free, no set hours. Enjoyed!

My wife and I went for a car ride today and found Shangri-La!! A very neat place to visit. Apparently the buildings/structures in the village area made with stones from the quarry on the (original?) owner's property. You can see the creativity in the buildings, using...Read More

What a wonder. Kid friendly, everyone welcomed. Delightfully designed and presented. I've been four times now. So unique! He blasted the stone out of his back yard and, starting in 1968, built 27 unique, detailed buildings until he died of cancer nine years later in...Read More

This is an awesome location to visit for free. The detail and construction are amazing. You could hang out here for 1-2 hours. It is sort of in the middle of nowhere but worth a detour if you're kind of near the area.

A quick roadside diversion. It isn't huge but there's enough detail that I could see taking 30 minutes if you really looked closely.
