Other furnace repair people told me I had to replace the furnace ($4400-7000 for an 80%-efficient unit, or $9000-12,000 for a 96%-efficient unit) because "replacement parts are no longer available" (which I knew was not true) and because "rust inside the heat exchanger means it is probably cracked." Carl performed a proper multi-point inspection, gave me an honest analysis of the remaining lifetime of the furnace, and advised me about my ongoing maintenance responsibilities.
