RUN!! I have canceled my personal auto, home, and boat policy. My commercial auto policy will be canceled this coming week. I got lured in by an initial competitive quote, but you better, NEVER EVER make a change to your policy or it will go up substantially. Upon renewal, mine, and the three peoples policies that I referred to Progressive went through the roof. Progressive was unable after 25 hours on the phone to give me an explanation as to why, because literally nothing changed. One agent even pulled my Carfax report, because she stated this could be the only other reason my policy increased so much since literally nothing has changed. Nope, nothing is changed on Carfax either! Right before my renewal, I purchased a commercial auto policy. The Progressive agent gave me a quote, and ran my credit card to pay it in full for an entire year. Before I hung up with him, I realized that my father-in-law had to drive down to pick up the new car so the agent told me to add him for one day to the policy. The agent said that to add him it would increase the policy by around $600, but, I could call back the next day, take him off and they would prorate the policy only costing me approximately $12. When I called back the next day to take him off, not only did the policy not go down, it went up another $300. When I asked 15 different agents over three weeks, how taking the higher risk driver that made the policy go up off, would make the premium go up since the five drivers that they originally quoted the policy with were the only ones remaining on the policy from the day before, they told me that every time you make a change to your policy, it re-rates the entire policy and since my father-in-law was 83 years old, it changed the average age of the drivers, and in turn increased the premium by taking him off. The original agent lied to me, and literally by adding my father-in-law like he told me to do for one day, increased the premium by $1000 over the next year since this was an annual quote. I told them to cancel the policy give me a refund, and we would just rewrite it like we did the day before, with the same five drivers, without my father-in-law, and the price should be the original quote. They refused! Another 25+ hours on the phone trying to get a resolution. They quote you a low rate, but if you add a car, change drivers, change the amount of miles driven, change anything, or who knows what else they can come up with they seize this opportunity to take advantage of you and raise the rate of your entire policy. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!! FYI, I called Farm Bureau and all they wanted asked for was my drivers license number, my address, my vin numbers, and a copy of my daughters report card showing she has a 3.0 GPA or above and the premium was substantially less making a monthly payment, then Progressive’s pay in full option, which I did when I first got the policy. I asked the Farm Bureau agent don’t they need the amount of mileage I drive per year, and they said no it doesn’t matter. Farm Bureau does not nickel and dime you to death!! if the CEO of Progressive knew what his company had put me through over the last 30 days, he would probably personally send Flo to apologize to me!
