Lamb’s Yacht Center
A strong recommendation for Lamb’s Yacht Center on the Ortega River in Jacksonville FL.
While staying at neighboring Port 32 Marina, we found that one of our 18,000 BTU Dometic Emerald split system air conditioners had a LPF (Low Pressure Fault). This was really inconvenient for us, as we were about to leave towards the Bahamas. I called Lamb’s on the afternoon of Tuesday March 5th, looking for service is ASAP as we were anxious to get to the Bahamas and then back north of Florida before June 1st to comply with our hurricane insurance restriction. I spoke with the service manager Alex, and he needed to see what he could do with his scheduling for us. He said that he would call me the next day, and if I didn’t hear from him by noon to call him. To my surprise he was calling me at 9:30am - already a good start to have someone call back as promised. He said that he could accommodate us on Monday. That seems to be a pretty darn good response in these crazy service times. Upon the evaluation on Monday the problem was worse than expected and the compressor needed to be removed to braise a cracked line. The compressor was back in the boat and running by the end of the day. Rather than calling it done and sending us on our way the plan was to wait until Tuesday morning to be sure that everything remained correct. We stayed on the boat at Lamb’s and used their nice showers. Unfortunately on Tuesday morning we found that the braise failed and the repair process needed to be repeated. This time they kept the compressor on the bench overnight while pressurized to 175 psi. With everything good on Wednesday morning the compressor was installed on the boat and system recharged again. With it running well again, we all agreed that it was a good idea to cycle it as much as possible between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning to build 100% confidence. Again Lamb’s was good with us staying on their service pier overnight.
Our overall experience was great. Our tech Josh has the skills and all necessary tools for a professional repair. Alex and Josh were friendly and professional throughout the process. In the end Lamb’s stood behind their work and we were very pleased with our bill. Lamb’s is an old school full service yard that seems to be capable of any service at a truly professional level. They are stacked with certified technicians (see photos). EVERYONE working there is polite and genuinely happy to be there.
A first class marine service center.
It was a great find!
