Probably the worst landlords I have ever experienced. If my roommate was late on the rent for that month, instead of taking any action, they would harass me and hold me accountable for the full amount—even though my roommate and I signed separate leases. When my roommate decided to ghost me on the lease, I was told I would be held liable for the FULL $1,100/month—reminder that we signed two separate leases. The day my roommate returned to get his stuff—I was given NO notification of any sort from my landlords at the time, Jeff and Trisha Nichols (I was also later informed by the secretary that Trisha also happened to be in Boone this day). The way I found out was through my phone blowing up with threats and demeaning texts and calls from my roommates friend when they arrived at the house and found it to be locked. If this eviction was held in a legal matter, Trisha would have been there to let my roommate in and remain present during the eviction. I called the landlords office after receiving the messages from my roommates friend and was THEN informed that he was moving out that day. It was just assumed that I would know. So, I then call the law to accompany me to my house for my protection. Once the officer and I arrived at the house, there was no sign of Trisha or my roommate and their friend. I called Trisha and asked where she was and she simply responded “No, I am not coming down there. He is crazy.” My landlord was in Boone during the eviction “process” and refused to accompany me AT HER PROPERTY for my SAFETY. The officer then proceeded to tell me that he had “other calls” and this wasn’t an actual eviction and “there was no reason for him to stay.” Im assuming my safety was then again put to the side by, not just my landlord, but the law had other priorities as well. Shaking and crying, I waited outside by myself for my roommate and their friend to show up. Thankfully, my boyfriend was able to leave class and accompany me. Once my roommate and their friend arrived, everything was moved out with ease (thank god ?) and I was still reminded by my landlord that I would be responsible for the full rent. Legally, it would cost me more money to take them to court to say that is completely illegal given their were two separate leases and no official guarantor papers. Instead, I requested that I find a subleaser to take over the entire payment. Trisha ONLY agreed if I forfeit my security deposit. So, I will settle for this review to warn all of you before you invest yourself in a 12 month lease with these money greedy pigs.
