Update: just to show another example of Homeway’s dishonesty, they posted a pic of our kitchen on 11/7/24 saying, “we love putting in new cabinets”. Homeway had nothing to do with installing or purchasing the cabinets in our kitchen. It was done by another company yet they are trying to claim credit for it.
Homeway did a kitchen remodel for us a few months ago. The finish product turned out good, but the process getting there was a bit frustrating especially at the end. The subcontractors they used for plumbing (Traditional Plumbing) and electrical (Freedom Electrical) were not great. Plumbers had to fix several mistakes throughout the process. Some of the guys they sent were good, but some of them were not. Very inconsistent. The electrician was awful. Constantly doing half work, not showing up days he said he would, and never finishing work he was supposed to finish when he did show up. The biggest complaint I have with Homeway is the communication, or lack there of, around additional cost added to the project. We had to have a steel beam added per the structural engineer. At the time it was determined we needed it I asked multiple times how much more it would cost. I never got an answer. Three months later I get emailed a new invoice with $3,200 of additional charges. $1100 for removing columns, which was part of the original quote, and $2100 for the beam. The column cost was removed since it was part of the original quote and they did lower the beam cost since it wasn’t communicated very well. On the day I was to give them the final check the contractor called me and asked me to write two checks. One check to the company for the remaining amount owed, minus the beam cost, and another check made out to him personally for the cost of the beam. When I asked why the personal check, he said “he had to pay some people”. If that didn’t seem unusual enough when he comes to pick up the checks he tells me he is leaving to go to Disney with his family the next day. So the cost of the beam that was never communicated until the very end is going to him personally the day before he is leaving to go on vacation? It is hard not to feel like this whole ordeal with the beam wasn’t shady. It definitely doesn’t seem like a good business practice or something you should put your customers through.
