I went to this salon last Oct in 2019 and wish I didn’t. It changed everything about my hair that I’m still working on a whole year later. I walked in with healthy thick curly natural hair. The style I received was beautiful, a silk press with a lot of body. But, I wish I had paid more attention to the process of what was happening with my hair or else I would’ve left. 3 weeks later I washed my hair, not one curl reverted back. My hair was limp and very thin. None of my natural products worked. My hair looked as though I had a relaxer. I’ve been natural for 5 years with no issues my hair has always bounced back after salon treatment. I did not go over my hair at all at home as I do not own a flat iron. I am knowledgeable about my natural hair and I’m aware of what works for my hair and what doesn’t. I wrote the stylist letting her know what happened and was told my curls were loose due due to a product called “haircology” I researched this product and also got in contact with the owner of the brand. This product contains a lot of keratin which can loosen curls and can take almost 6 months to wear off, the products also claim to be a semi-permanent silkening treatment. It took about 3 months for only some of my curls to revert, I still had several limp and straight pieces of hair, where I once had a head full of curls. after several months and washes I realized my hair was not ruined from a product, my hair was ruined from the heat of the flat iron, I do not know the temperature of the iron or what type of flat iron the stylist used or what type of heat protector she used if she even used any. My hair texture is not very kinky, it’s thick but it doesn’t need several passes of heat to get the job done. My hair had several straight pieces in the middle of my hair strands then towards the ends my hair would curl. It took a month for my hair to even smell like my products, it smelled burned for a while. I’ve had to transition my entire head of hair all over again which has been very frustrating especially when you’ve been natural for so long and have to start completely over from damage you didn’t cause on yourself but from an actual stylist.
The stylist did offer to give me deep conditioning treatments which I was going to accept but decided to cancel and never rescheduled as I did not feel comfortable allowing her to do my hair again, due to the damage that was caused from her already was just too much.
I believe the stylist is great at styling hair which is why I went to her salon her pictures on Instagram looked great and I only saw great reviews and shares on Facebook, but I question how did I end up being the client that got the heat damage? How could I get heat damage like this but other clients I know that have gone to her has been able to revert back to curly hair with ease. unfortunately my experience at this salon cost me the journey of starting completely over.
