I had a bad experience with Phillip of "Choo Choo Rooter" although they did come out and clean out a clogged kitchen drain after I contacted him this morning to see if they were available and he said a tech was on his way in to work so he would send him to my home, which he did. Also they unclogged the drain in record time. His price range was between $200 to $400 to take care of a clogged drain but stated it could go higher depending on the circumstances aka any problems. I told him I had used Drano with no success yesterday but I had flushed out the line by scooping out over two five gallons of water while using a plunger and he talked like it was no big deal and said they could work with that. Hunter, their Tech, was a nice young man, arrived and began work at about 9:20am and was finished and out by about 10:00am. Now some of the plumbing joints started to leak after he left but he was quick to return and make it right. Since there were no issues during the clean out with the cable machine I expected a $200 charge (similar to what other plumbers charge if there are no problems with the lines) but Hunter stated that the price would be $300 cash and more if I paid by card. When I asked why the increase he mentioned that they were quick to show up and get the job done (later this explanation changed according to Phillip). A little later I called Phillip back and asked why the job warranted an increase of 50% from their base of $200 and he stated that they can charge more since they were able to come this morning and get the job done quickly while another plumber I had spoke with had put me off until this afternoon due to an emergency call he had gotten last night. Later Phillip had Hunter call me back and Hunter offered to rewrite the ticket for $200 and and they would refund me the extra $100 by check just to keep me as a happy customer which I told Hunter that would be fine with me. I told him at that time I felt liked I was overcharged since the standard rate as quoted by other plumbing companies was under and around $200 but he proceeded to tell me, something similar to what I heard from Phillip during our phone call, that they can charge more since they are quick to get there and get the job done. So later I get a voice mail from Phillip asking for me to call him back and he tells me he and Hunter put their heads together and decided to retract the offer of $100 refund since now the $100 increase was due to the Drano used a day ago, although I told Phillip earlier about the flushing when I had first called him and at that time he had said they could work with it but never mentioned an increase in price due to the Drano from yesterday. I could have probably let this go until he threatened to Black Ball me with the other plumbers and no one would do any work for me if I wrote a poor review. So Phillip shoot your best shot my friend! Black Ball Away! Personally I had planned on giving them an Average 3 Star Review rating due to what I believe to be their higher than average pricing until he made the Black Ball comment which I guess was meant to intimidate me - Lol... So the moral to this story is that if money is no object and you're in a hurry then by all means go with Choo Choo Rooter but be sure to get a fixed quote before they begin their work since I agree that they can do the job and do it possibly quicker than most but if you're retired and on a fixed income as my wife and I are then you probably would want to look elsewhere, there are lower priced, quality plumbers out there...
