I worked at this Safeway from 2016 to 2018 (six years ago), alongside the current Store Director, Brittany Miller. At that time, I was the Grocery Manager, and she was the Assistant Store Director. As a Grocery Manager, you have to be at least 18 years old, so both Brittany and another employee named Tony are well aware that I am over 21.
While checking out, I had two bottles of liquor, and Tony asked me, “I know you’re old enough, but what’s your date of birth?” After I told him, he requested that I “just flash [my] ID for the cameras.” I explained that I had left my ID in the car, but he insisted I needed it to purchase the liquor.
I then asked for a manager. When the manager arrived, he gave me attitude after I explained the situation, emphasizing that Tony knew I was over 21 because I used to be his boss. I was taken aback by the manager’s demeanor, especially since I used to work for the company and know that this isn’t how we should treat customers.
Next, I called Brittany to discuss the situation, but she just reiterated what the staff had said and responded with a snarky remark. When I mentioned that I had worked for Safeway nearly 6 or 7 years ago, she snapped back, correcting me that it was only 5 years. She seemed more focused on the timeline than addressing the issue at hand.
What is going on with the customer service at this store these days?
Brittany and the manager that assisted me could have easily prevented this review from happening. But the lack of respect left me no choice.
