Went on a Saturday afternoon at around 3PM. Had high hopes after reading others' reviews. There was no one in the restaurant except us. The service and responsiveness of our server was poor. Not sure why especially since we are the only 3 people in the restaurant. We ordered 2 tempura dinners and the 30-piece sashimi sushi combo. The tempura took a little bit of time to get to the table and understandably so. The tempura dinners got to the table and the sushi sashimi didn't. From my view, I could see that the sushi chef had been doing nothing since our arrival. And even after we placed our order, he was doing nothing. So my other companions had to wait for my sushi sashimi. Why? The sushi chef had zero orders other than mine! What was he doing? A long 10 minutes later, my sushi sashimi arrived. It was the most plain looking and undesirable plate of food I'd ever seen and certainly does not warrant being Japanese. Most chefs take pride in displaying the 18 pieces of sashimi and 12 pieces of nigiri. Not this one. And, it was placed on a bed of shaved carrot instead of daikon -- yuck. The taste just was not appealing and did not go together. There's a reason why daikon is used. Substituting with cheap carrot for this $49 entrée is just wrong. The tempura dinner was okay but leave out the broccoli. Frying broccoli in tempura batter just produces a yucky mess of uncooked batter in the middle. And, please use a regular sauce dish so that we can actually dip the tempura in. The sauce came in a tiny portion cup that is about 1.5 inch diameter. None of the tempura could be dipped in the sauce. And our server was nowhere to be found after he dropped the food off. He never checked back and disappeared for a really long time. I finally had to go to the sushi bar to get sauce dishes appropriate for dipping. It would be okay, and just okay to go back for the cooked dishes but can't justify going back for sushi and sashimi. Yet another pseudo sushi place. And service was frustrating even though we're the only ones there.
