Coming from Texas, growing up in Phoenix, and being married to a beautiful Mexican woman, I am relatively familiar with Mexican food..as is she. We recently moved to the area and had a craving for some Mexican food. Tulum had great reviews and was local, so we tried it out. The staff seemed very friendly, the atmosphere was pleasing, but the food left much to be desired. Very rarely do I think Mexican food needs MORE flavor...and even more rarely do I feel it needs salt. Perhaps my wife and I had a bad batch. I had the chimichanga, which was slightly below average, in my opinion, with a side of rice and beans, as well as a taco, while the wife had their vegetarian chalupa. The beef seemed very watery and tasteless, and the rice and beans just seemed bland. It was..strange? It was completely unexpected for Mexican food and really threw me off. There may be a large local population that enjoys food without much flavor, and maybe they are working with that... I don't know... it, unfortunately, didn't work for us.
