You know, these reviews really make me sad. I think these people don't know how to order or something. We love the Purple Rose and go there all the time when we don't feel like cooking, and don't want to spend a hundred dollars on dinner for two. I love their margaritas, and they have a huge selection of tequilas if you want to get something fancier than the house favorite. We are pretty much foodies and spend a lot of time cooking and eating, and talking about cooking and eating, and throwing dinner parties where the one favorite topic is recipes and the best place to shop for organic produce, so it's not like we are a bunch of dweebs about food. Chef Greg's Mexican food has a Gringo vibe, it's true, but it's so full of flavor, especially the chile verde. I always have him make me a tostada with chile verde, his amazing refried beans, guacamole, sour cream and lots of lettuce. So yummy. The green and red salsas are amazing. Love the #4 combination. Get that. Don't get the chicken. no no no. Love the downhome, friendly service from all the waitresses who've worked there forever and know everybody's "usual." Love the crazy décor, which is hilarious and fun-to-look-at Mexican doodads on every vertical surface (bullfight paintings on velvet, posters for long-gone mariachi shows, John F. Kennedy rugs, piñatas, etc.). It's big and lively and super-casual (don't have to dress up), and I just want to say that you might want to give it another chance before cruelly trashing a wonderful, iconic destination. It doesn't do the world any good to be so rude. Just saying.
