This is a long one, but the facts must be stated. We were looking forward to trying The Back Porch based on its setup. Do not expect a quiet, cozy restaurant. It is a bar and grill with TV's for sports. The menu is more bar menu based and reasonably priced until you get to the limited entrée section, where they are very proud of their prices. If I recall correctly, the cheapest entrée was $20.There was a party of four of us. We tried the Triple Dipper and onion rings for our appetizers. The onion rings were decent. The batter had a country fried steak/chicken flavor to them, which I didn't think was too bad. The Triple dipper had chips, salsa, brisket queso, and guacamole. Unfortunately, it was disappointing. Chips were somewhat stale, the guacamole was flavorless, and queso was cold. The salsa was good though. One party had the flatbread, who said it was good. My wife had the chicken and vegetables, and she said it was mediocre at best. I had the 3C smash burger. It was a huge disappointment. I'm used to smash burgers being packed with flavor. The only flavor it had was the sweet pickles. The bottom bun was very soggy and fell apart the first time I picked it up. Fries were good once I seasoned them. Now for the facts. Do not expect to have drinks or eat with the other parties at your table at the same time. We 100% understood this was a soft opening and there would be kinks. Friendly service; yes, good service; absolutely not. The ladies sat down 10 minutes before us and ordered two dirty martini's. When we sat down, only 1 martini had come out. I then ordered my drink and appetizers, and the other husband ordered his drink. Out came the 2nd martini ordered 20+ minutes earlier. The 3rd drink came out rather quickly, then came the appetizers. As we finished the appetizers, my first drink still hadn't come, yet the flatbread pizza entrée had already been served and was getting cold. This is where it went downhill. The other lady in our party went to the bar to inquire about my drink as our waitress went MIA. She came back very upset saying the guy laughed at her when she tried questioning the long delay. This set her husband off. When another server came by, in his anger towards who he thought was a bartender, addressed his frustration to the server, who informed us the guy was the co-owner, not a bartender. This angered our friend even more learning an owner disrespected his wife. He did start cussing and yes, it was over the top, but it was not targeted towards the employees, only the co-owner who disrespected his wife. Making the situation worse, the co-owner continued to avoid our table, sending a kind, understanding, apologetic waitress, who agreed with our friends frustration. Sometime during all the back and forth, my wife's meal came out lukewarm, and eventually my soggy bottom burger came out. I estimate that our meals came out at least 15+ minutes apart. At this point our friend told the nice waitress to cancel his order since it wasn't out still. Eventually, the co-owner did come to the table and when asked why he laughed at, and dismissed the wife at the bar, he lied and said he didn't do anything. Well, someone doesn't come back from a conversation nearly in tears if they weren't disrespected. At no point did he offer an apology or express any interest in his customers concerns. He only offered to comp the meals. This angered our friend more. We then asked him to explain why our drinks and food came out so far apart and he said "we serve tapas style", "it comes when it's ready, we don't complete orders by table". WHAT? WHY would you not serve each table instead of each person 15-20 minutes apart? Research terminology before using it as an excuse. After 1.5 hours, we were asked to leave due to our friends over the top, but justified words towards the owner. The owner had every opportunity to show an ounce of respect to deescalate the situation but chose not to which speaks volumes to his character. If not for the situation, we still would not return based on the food alone. Good luck.
