looking for a 'close by' place for steak, and having seen it advertised, I was looking forward to trying it out. Made a reservation online for early on a Friday night.

Its a bit off the highway in Bulverde, but in the evening you can't miss the sign out front.
We were the only guests when we arrived at 1720...so parking and getting seated was not an issue. Plenty of both.
The main saloon/restaurant is done is a VERY western theme, come in jeans and boots if you want to fit in.
The outside rodeo areas are very spacious with additional bar and seating areas - we will definitely come back during the rodeo season! (when its 'warmer')
We started with chips & queso - queso was flavorful and chips were thin, warm, crispy. We did get a couple of warm biscuits as well - they were good w/butter.
If you thinking 'steakhouse' like JPrime or Ruth's Chris - this is NOT it. Overall style of service is very casual.
They serve seasoned steak medallions (KC style). On a plate with no presentation (see the pic).
We asked for medium (since we didn't know what level of 'done' they have here) but we got what I would usually call MedRare...which is how I prefer, but a little to red/rare for my wife. we ordered the '2' size serving which was enough meat - but for some folks it might not be enough.
The serving for 'two' comes with 4 sides.
Next time we will certainly order from the 'plates' menu and try the chicken or chicken fried steaks.
All the side dishes are listed as 'family style' but the sides are smaller portions than I'm used to seeing in a family style service (see the pics). More of a single serving size (if two people want mash, then order 2 of them)
sides were all good - I don't know if the mashed potatoes come with fixings, we didn't ask - so we didn't get any. We did add the onion n' shrooms - that was nice add with the steak medallions. The best side we had was the mac-n-cheese with green chile, that had great flavor and richness with the white cheese.
Out the door with tip was $130+ which we felt was little on the high side considering it was a very casual service.
