Tartine is a hidden gem in the San Diego restaurant scene. Went here last night with my wife and my mom for the first time because we had seen the place on a previous drive around Coronado. It was an 11/10 experience. The vibe was friendly, unpretentious, and casual, and the food was exceptionally good. No joke. My wife is Italian and has extremely high standards when it comes to dining experiences. Even if she likes a place, she can usually find at least one thing to critique. At Tartine, she was speechless. From the bread offered before the meal, the wine service, the mains, and the dessert—she loved everything. On top of that, our waiter Kenny was kind and attentive, without being over the top. Chef Billy (Kenny's older brother) came out at the end of the night to ask us about our experience. Everything is prepared fresh daily, and he prepares each dish that goes out and has been doing that five nights a week for 20 years. And his wife is up in the morning preparing the pastries; a true family run joint. Also, the restaurant is owned by three women, and the care they show toward their staff is obvious. This place is the real deal, and I can't say enough good things. We will certainly be back. Thank you Chef Billy, Kenny, and the rest of the Tartine crew.
