Not my first time eating yakitori, but it was for my friends, so we ordered a nice mix of yakitori standards including negima tare (chicken thigh & green onion w/ sauce) and tsukune (meatball). While negima tare is a favorite of mine, I also ordered kawa (chicken skin), gyutan (beef tongue) and hatsu (heart). These choices offer a different taste and texture from the usual chicken thigh or breast.
They also had specials and the staff made some recommendations. We decided to try the Mille-bare Maki (pork belly and onion skewer with a sweet miso sauce) and a pork belly wrapped shiitake skewer. They were both delicious, especially the Mille-bara Maki, which we ended up ordering more of!
Overall, I would highly recommend Shin-Sen-Gumi! We had a great time, the food was excellent, good beer (Sapporo, my favorite!), and super friendly, attentive staff!
I’ve always said the char-grilled taste of yakitori with beer is tough to beat, and this is a great spot!
