You know what it’s like when you are looking for a new place and all the reviews seem the same. Recently we were looking for a pizza place and came across a restaurant that had great reviews; all 5 stars out of 5 stars. No one had anything bad to say. We’ve got to try this place. Let’s just say; that was the worst pizza I’ve ever had. The pasta wasn’t appetizing, and the dessert tasted like chemicals and was quite small for the price.
Fast forward to today; what are we going to spend money on. We came across Saxx’s on Favor. The prices were amazing. The descriptions sounded promising. This place wasn’t on Yelp. Off to the website. The Goggle Reviews were all 5 stars out of 5 stars. Not a lot, but enough to get our attention. We had a question about a section of the menu, so we called to ask. We spoke with Mr. Saxx Williams. He was personable, answered our questions and we were on our way to place an order. By the way, when we were on the phone, a customer came in; he acknowledged the customer and kept our conversation going without being rude to either party.
Stay with me; we ordered. We got three tacos. The chorizo, potato (grilled red), egg and Mexican cheese, (website description- Made with Saxx's famous grilled red potatoes, egg, chorizo, and cooked together to absorb the flavor in the potatoes and topped with Mexican cheese..) A chicken fajita taco that had the red grilled potatoes, grilled peppers and onions. Sadly there wasn’t a description for this. This is the reason we called Mr. Saxx. The last taco was the bacon, egg, potato and Mexican cheese. (Website description - Made with Saxx's famous grilled red potatoes, one large egg prepared whole and fried in bacon grease layered on top of two crispy strips of peppered bacon and Mexican cheese.)
Now on to the two burgers. We ordered a patty melt. This was called the Jimmy. (Website description - Patty melt. Garlic butter toasted Texas toast filled with a 14 lb all beef perfectly seasoned patty and topped with olive oil sauteed onions and melted cheddar cheese.) We also ordered the "The Schylur" (Skylur) Burger. (Website description - Spicy fajita burger. 1/2 lb of all beef seasoned in cayenne and cooked to mouth-watering goodness. Toasted onion bread buns covered in moist fajita mixed veggies, grilled jalapenos, grilled serranos, salsa verde, and melted muenster cheese.) Burgers come with crinkle fries or tater tots. We ordered fries for one and tater tots for the other to share. We received fries for both, and my husband who isn’t into crinkle cut fries ate every fry in his meal.
The attention to detail impressed me and for those that know me; impressing me takes a lot. Every last detail was considered. There was napkins, the tacos were labeled with nice writing and bag was packed keeping in mind that the food needed to travel. When the containers were opened, there was foil to keep everything warm. The kicker was that the bread didn’t get soggy. The fries were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. In the other part of the container, there was a container of ketchup and he had put a napkin to cradle the container of ketchup.
I’m almost done. The food had depths of flavors. The hamburgers were handmade; the bun was toasted; the veggies were grilled; and the salsa and Pico were freshly made. The most expensive things on the menu was $12. My ¼ lb. patty melt, and fries were $7.50. I was full. My husband’s ½ lb hamburger and fries was $9.50. The most expensive tacos I think were $4. Our was $3.75. The size; of my hand which is 7 inches long and 3 ½ inches wide.
Ignore that this place is in a gas station. Acctually don’t ignore that fact. Think about when you cook at home; Mr. Saxx is cooking breakfast and lunch/dinner at the same times, or could be. He can’t have tons of space. Once day we will go visit the place. Oh, we are about 3.6 miles away and our food arrived adequately warm.
Cheers to you Mr Saxx and Saxx’s Tacos. One day we look to meeting you in person. Keep up the amazing work. For everyone else, give Mr. Saxx’s food a try.
