My current favorite Vietnamese vegan restaurant. Ever since my Buddhist best friend introduced me to this vegetarian restaurant, I've been hook. I'm yet a strict/full time vegetarian/vegan yet some week, I opt for more vegetarian food than animal protein. I loved everything we have tried so far. Our repertoire at the restaurant normally includes less or more depending how big is my party but usually includes:
Appetizers:
1. Banana blossom salad
2. Salt & pepper oyster mushroom (deep fried)
3. Rice rolls (we'll call the type of rolls depending on the weather or you can call the combo, mixed rolls so you can try all the variety they offer).
4. Nem nuong aka veggie pork spring roll
Favorite main entree:
I'm going to help you guy with the phonetic pronunciation here for non viet, LOL.
1. Canh Bun (kanh boon- # 24 this is a tomato based soup broth and use the thick rice noodle, the same rice noodle with Bun Hue. They do come with the tiny cup of the pungent fermented tofu paste, a mock version of the shrimp paste of the non vegetarian version of this noodle soup. That tiny cup totally elevated the taste of the noodle soup and made it so close to the animal protein version.
2. Mi Quang (mee kwang - comes with peanut. A turmeric thick flat noodle soup, very close to the original noodle I remembered having in my childhood in Da Nang province when I was little. Note that this noodle soup style is a little on the dry side, a lot less soup than your average noodle soup as a heads up.
Remaining items on the menu is good, especially the hot pot but just like everything else, I tend to call my favorites whenever I'm there.
Overall, if you're a plant based diner, New Hoa Dang Vegetarian Restaurant is worthy of adding to your list of vegetarian restaurants. If you never had Vietnamese food/cuisine before, then this is the perfect restaurant to explore our cuisine.
They have plenty of che desserts on the menu as well.
Namste!
