Mouton's Southern Bistro in Leander

Good food a lil salty but good. The staff was friendly and attentive. The decor is a little lack luster, but everything was clean and tidy. I had tge Cajun Catfish it was very flavorful and crispy just how I like it. The fried okra was absolutely delicious perfectly fried and salted. The Gator bites were OK they had the most salt of everything so kinda hard to taste the other flavors in the batter. Spinach dip was very bland and the bread they give with it while delicious on its own overpowered the dip and was in my opinion too soft for the dip, it made it all one texture unfortunately kinda soggy. Overall will be back again as there were more menu items I wanna try out.

Where to start? Wanted to try a new place. Wow! This place was awesome! Ben's gumbo(pic after few spoonfuls), mufaletta, fried okra,chicken sausage gumbo,catfish brown and killer bread pudding.( pic shows mostly eaten,was plenty for two) Will definitely return. Can't forget the great service too!

OK ... so I would not normally rave about a meal at a restaurant located in a couple of trailer homes connected end to end (at least that's what it looked like... LOL). I read the reviews of Mouton's online and thought WOW, we have got it try that place. Then we pull into the parking lot, and I thought "this cannot be the right place." So, I double-check the address, "yep, the right place." As we approach the door, several customer's were leaving, and one says to me "the food here is terrible." LOL He was clearly joking. We had a FABULOUS meal at Mouton's! OMG, all the accolades in the reviews were spot on. We started with the fried green tomatoes, lightly breaded with Panko bread crumbs, and topped with a warm crawfish remoulade. Divine, start to finish. The crawfish remoulade was outstanding! Next up, gumbo and red beans and rice. Let's just say someone in the kitchen KNOWS their cajun/creole cooking. Both dishes were incredible, even by New Orleans standards! Next up, the fried catfish basket. We're not usually the one to order a basket of fried food, but the catfish and fries were worth the guilt! :-) The fish was very fresh, lightly breaded, and was probably one of the best fried fishes I have ever had. The fries were piing hot, and tasted oh so great! For dessert, rather than something sweet, we circled back to the appetizer menu and ordered fried okra. The okra was super fresh, the breading very light. Not a traditional way to end a good meal, but it worked for me. Cannot wait to go back, there are so many delicious things on the menu, it may take 10-12 visits to get through the menu. This review highlights my second culinary adventure at Mouton's. This visit was just as impressive as the first! They were out of fried green tomatoes, so we pivoted to the gator bites. Light panko crust, and killer white remoulade sauce on the side. AWESOMENESS! The shrimp etouffee was equally DEELISH! We thought about ordering more, but then remembered our quest to work our way through the menu. LOL The Leander "Catfish" Brown is better described as "the best fish and chips in Texas." It was wonderful, thin batter, super fresh fish, and great fries on the side. (Our waitress told us Mouton's actually has a fish and chips special, lunch on Fridays, made with cod. We're having lunch at Mouton's of Friday soon!) The shrimp po-boy was also delicious, and the homemade tartar sauce is divine! We shared a slice of key lime pie for dessert, very good as well! Nice wait staff, super comfortable place, a great #2 visit to Mouton's. ​Brought some out-of-time family members to Mouton‘s Southern bistro recently for them to get a taste of some real Cajun cuisine. They loved it! We started with cocktails which were all delicious. We shared an order of the fried green tomatoes, sauce on the side, as always, they were perfect. We also passed entrées around, which included Paw Paw’s Pork Chop, Leander Catfish Brown (blackened), and Crawfish Etouffee. Each was a fantastic example of Cajun cuisine at its best! The shared sides included red beans and fried okra, both also great! Service was wonderful as always, attentive but not intrusive! Excellent every time. Favorite is the Southwest Mac and Cheese and Frenchalatta Sandwich. The service can be a bit slow but they excel at customer service. Totally worth the wait. The waitress today offered to make our fried pickles as slices since we don’t like the spears they usually serve. That’s awesome service. Also dog friendly! Great fried shrimp and my sons chicken fried steak was immense. If you're in the mood for southern food give them a try. Full bar and patio seating as well. Decent amount of indoor seating and it's close to our house so very convenient. My wife also enjoyed the reuben. Will be back for sure.

First time at Mouton’s and certainly impressed! The portions are large and reasonably priced. I ordered the catfish jambalaya thinking it would be a small piece of catfish, it’s a complete fillet! Also comes with some shrimp étouffée on top. Wife got the New Orleans French toast, and the kiddo got a pancake. I also had the gator po boy, it was good, and I recommend, although tempted to try other shellfish options in the future. Oh yea don’t forget the Bourbon Street Bloody Mary! We ate outside which was nice, service was prompt and friendly. Overall highly recommend

First time trying moutons & I was so impressed with not only the quality, but the service as well. The portions were huge. The chicken fried steak was the best I’ve ever had; the batter was so thick & the gravy was excellent. The green beans were also very tender.

We decided to go here for dinner on a Saturday night. It wasn’t busy, and got seated immediately. My husband ordered the Shell Beach Platter which includes fried fish, fried shrimp and fried crawfish pieces. It came with coleslaw and fries. He said it was good but it’s fried… Am I right? I chose to try the Cajun Colette with shrimp and asked for it mild (I’m a whimp when it comes to spice and I knew the dish has “Cajun” in the name). It was absolutely amazing! It has shrimp, penne pasta, sun dried tomatoes, bacon and garlic all mixed up in their Alfredo sauce. It also included two pieces of bread. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the food items and very attentive. We will absolutely be going back again.

Had attempted this restaurant previously but never made it, gave it another shot last week. We were so so impressed. I cannot tell you how delicious the food was. Chicken and grits, pasta and some killer peach bread pudding. Our waitress was efficient and pleasant. I cannot say enough, we cannot wait to come back.

Man, I’m sayinggg This place is DELECTABLE. Spent a bit of time down in the Calcasieu Parish so I have been spoiled with that cuisine. Came here with my mother after she spotted it off the road. This place is the real deal, their food takes me back to summertime in the swamp. Wonderful atmosphere, flavorful food, and spectacular staff. Highly recommend this place. My mother brings it up every time she visits

Wanted a hole in the wall looking place and saw this little house looking restaurant. Walked in and saw a few tables. Had an amazing fried green tomato appetizer with a crayfish remoulade. Then got the Bastrop burger and was able to order it rare. It was amazing! Great service and will definitely go back if I'm in the area. I want to try a lot of things.

We love this place! The crawfish Monica pasta is creamy, spicy and excellent! We have been there before when they have live music and don’t care for it because it’s too small of a restaurant for that. Not knocking the music but they should maybe do it outside.

They have really great food here! Appetizer I always get is their boudin balls. Crawfish Monica is great, so is the blackened catfish, and of course their chicken fried steak! They also have brunch- biscuits & gravy, French toast, & they always make their hashbrowns perfect. Friendly wait staff each time I’ve eaten here too.
