Read MoreI've been on what I've titled a "Jacksonville pizza journey" - trying to hunt down the best New York style pizza in the city. At each place I order the same thing - either a slice of cheese and a slice of pepperoni, or if they don't sell by the slice I order a half cheese, half pepperoni 10" pizza. I've tried pizza all over Jax, eating at the same places multiple times to give them the benefit of the doubt if the pizza was off on a given day. Mateo's is the current reigning champion. The flavor is awesome. The crust is cooked perfectly. The sauce is delicious. The light sprinkling of Italian seasoning is on point. Mateo makes his dough in house and has been making pizza for years. The price is beyond reasonable. If you truly love pizza, I can't stress enough that Mateo's needs to be on the top of your list. And, as an added bonus, it's inside the Bold City taproom - $4 pints of delicious fresh beer. I've been looking for the perfect pizza, and I'm stoked that it's located in my neighborhood at Mateo's.
