Local Joliet eatery needs pick a lane. Thurs. dinner for 2 at 6:45, 2 other diners in the dining room, but bar & casino in adjacent room had about 6+ patrons. Confusing ambiance with a cacophony of bar music/noise & oldies (music, not us) in the dining area. We had our own server (other table had the other waitstaff member), so I was terribly disappointed to receive deep fried grouper that was only warm. The fryer couldn’t have been more than 30 feet from my table. Other entree was overcooked salmon. 2 entrees + 1 appetizer (green beans, they were good) + 2 iced teas= $110 inc. tax & tip. No dessert was available, which was their last chance to do something right since the green beans. Server was friendly, but distracted, and given the empty dining area, there was no reason we should have felt like an afterthought. Magpie’s had an overall weird, truck stop-like vibe that had only the meal to redeem the otherwise awkward experience, and that fell way short. It’s an insult to patrons at that price point to force them to write reviews like this. Will return only if I decide to start playing electronic slots.

I have been anxiously waiting to try Magpies since it opened and tonight was the night. We had a 5 pm reservation got there about 4:45 thinking we would have a cocktail so we sat at a table and no server ever came to us. Ok strange but the stranger part is that this lovely little bistro is paired with a neighborhood tavern which was very HoT and so loud my head was pounding. The hostess came and asked if we had a reservation at about 5:02 we gave her our name and time of reservation. The doors to the restaurant did not open until 5:12 which would not have been a big deal if the waiting environment was better. We almost walked out but finally the doors opened to expose a charming little restaurant. Our lovely server immediately greeted us and asked if we would like a drink. I am asked about any specialty drinks and was told they have wine from a local winery so I opted for a soda. But then the food started coming. The most delicious buffalo mozzarella hand rolled sticks, potato leek soup that was divine! I had the blackened grouper with asparagus and risotto husband had pasta with meat sauce and a beautiful key lime pie for dessert. The restaurant was a great experience I am giving 5 stars on the food and service alone and I am glad we didn’t leave. for the price point I would have preferred to not hear the tavern noise.

The food is incredible. I had a hamburger with grilled mushrooms on brioche bun and Cole slaw. It sounds simple yet it was best hamburger I've had in many years. The slaw was large cut with kale and a delicious dressing. Clearly the chef's own created dressing. The gently fried scallops had a rare delicious flavor and tasted very fresh. The original artwork on the walls enhanced the lovely atmosphere. I can no longer tolerate the loud sounds from a band, so I'm glad they didn't start up until we were finished. I will add, though, the band was clearly made up of talented rock professionals. The owner was delightful, sat down with us for a few moments to explain her fine menu. I really am looking forward to go there on a repeating basis. 💜

Here from out of state and we were told this place was great so we stopped in. Absolutely wonderful! The food was delicious, I had the mushroom pasta, my friend is a vegan and they had great vegan options for her. She got the veggie flatbread and it was wonderful. The staff was incredible and so nice and welcoming. Maggie, the owner, stopped by our table and was just the sweetest!! Definitely coming back next time we are in town!

I was great by the Hostess Stacey, and I decided to eat at the bar since I was by myself. The bartender, MJ, was quick to get my NA beer, and I had two appetizers specials to start. I had deep fried jumbo shrimp with this delicious blue cheese dipping sauce, and a red and yellow beet salad. Flavor explosion that took me to flavor town. I then had the cream of chicken soup. It was soooo good.

Enjoyed a friend get together yesterday which started out as a nice visit and conversation until about noon time when it became so loud we had to yell across the table to converse. I think that given it bring such a small venue and tight quarters they need to place some sound proofing panels around the walls and ceiling that will help absorb the sound. Otherwise the food and service was great. Wonder if they’ve thought of expanding or even relocating?

My first time at Magpie's and this was such a wonderful experience. I am a professional business woman where I wanted to take my boss out to nice local place in the area. We stumbled upon Magpie's and thought we would try it out. We were so impressed by how packed it was. There was people there dressed in suits just like us. We were greeted right away by the hostess and were seated in the cutest decorated dining area. My boss was so impressed by the look of this place. Tracey was our waitress and she was the nicest server ever. We LOVED what we saw on the menu and wanted to order one of everything. My boss ordered the Caprese Sandwich and I ordered the Power Energy Kale Salad. We both got a cup of the green lentil soup. Everything was so delicious. My boss ate his soup in one gulp and the sandwich disappeared quickly as he devoured it. My salad was probably the best I have ever had. Not kidding. The carrots were cut up in ribbons, the kale was chopped perfectly, and the butternut squash added a nice flavor. Their homemade balsamic dressing was savory. The portion was so large that I had to box up the rest. My boss is a vegetarian and there were so many vegetarian options. I, on the other hand am not a vegetarian but often choose dishes without meat. I was so excited to go back today Sunday for dinner and bring my boyfriend but Magpie's is closed. I was so bummed out. Please open on Sunday's as I know I will be there as your regular. I live less than five minutes away and am so excited to enjoy all their dishes. Then I noticed there is Kay's savory desserts. Not sure what they are but I know I will have to try them for sure. I cannot wait to come back and enjoy another great experience at Magpie's.

Family dined in tonight and enjoyed everything. We all had grouper and salad with some great desserts. I let the owner know that I enjoyed the bread pudding at Sheperds in Clearwater and was told hers was better. I think she was correct. Everything was perfect. My daughter is going to Clearwater in a few weeks so she got a few pointers on where to eat. Felt like being in Florida. Great job and we will be regulars for sure. On waitress was very nice and took care of us. Thanks for everything and look forward to coming back, thanks again, Tony, Vicki and Ashley

I went here with my sister a little before 6pm on a Thursday. We had talked about trying this place since it had opened. It is in my neighborhood and I had heard good things. We were seated right away and a bottle of water was placed on our table. There were glasses already on our table with what could have been melted ice or possibly used from the people before us, we weren't sure, so we waited for a server to ask for new glasses. After about 20 minutes of several servers walking past us and never being acknowledged since being seated, we ended up leaving. Not sure if we would go back, it was a bizarre experience.

My husband stopped for lunch, he text me to say his Steak sandwhich was wonderful service great, the remodel was charming and to look at the menu for takeout he could bring us something to eat…. My daughter ordered the pulled pork French toast it’s open faced she said it was incredible, she never had anything like that she definitely will get it again, I ordered the ribeye flatbread it was a party in your mouth, the flat bread is homemade, ribeye cooked to perfection, with arugula balsamic glaze, carmelized onions and feta cheese… we will definitely be coming back and also ordering take out…. My husband words were… this is exactly what Joliet needs!!! Welcome Magpies!!!

Two friends and I had decided a month ago that our GNO (girls night out) on Wednesday, March 27th that we would try Magpies. We got there at 5:30 +/- and was not too nicely greeted at the door with 'Do you have a reservation?' The tavern tables/bar was full. Our reply was no and was told there was no room for us that a reservation is required. I asked about the other half (being the dining room) and was told that was only open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.Now I can honestly say that it'll be awhile before we consider going to your establishment for GNO. Every head in that room turned at the tone she used speaking to us. It was rude and unnecessary. Your website says nothing about requiring reservations nor what times the dining room is closed and only tavern area open.I've heard nothing but good things about the food but Wednesday left a bad taste in my mouth.
