From the moment you step into Le Bernardin, you’re immersed in an elegant yet inviting ambiance. I've visited once per year, on average, over the past decade, most recently in December 2024.
And the soft lighting, sophisticated decor, and gentle hum of conversation create the perfect setting for a world-class culinary journey.
The menu is a celebration of the ocean, showcasing the finest seafood sourced from around the world. Each dish is a testament to the chef Eric Ripert’s artistry and commitment to excellence.
The Salmon Rillette, a delicate balance of rich and savory, is a delightful prelude to the main course that I often order. It’s perhaps the one dish in the world I’ll eat even knowing it’s made with some mayo, which sadly (I suppose), I do not enjoy.
Yet the legendary Tuna Carpaccio may be my favorite. It’s pounded paper thin, shaped into an oval “heart” and served with rich foie gras and a toasted baguette. Truly sublime. (I’ve now made far lesser versions at home, using the Le Bernardin cookbook, and they are still pretty good)!
Every seafood morsel is immaculate, fresh and perfectly cooked, often just barely “touched” by heat.
The attention to detail, from the presentation of each dish to the impeccable table settings, is evident in every aspect of the dining experience.
The service is impeccable, with knowledgeable and attentive staff who are passionate about providing an exceptional dining experience. Every detail was attended to, and we never felt rushed at all.
Absolutely deserving of their acclaim and honors. And this is no “absentee chef”. I’ve seen Chef Ripert walking throughout the dining room, checking on the front of the house and saying hello to familiar faces, on several occasions.
One “pro tip” (shhhhh!). For a very special weekday lunch, you can visit one of world’s best restaurants, often as a walk-in! You will be dining in the slightly more casual front “bar room” – no reservations here - but it’s directly adjacent to the main dining room, and really not a great deal different at all.
I have walked in a number of times on weekdays right at 12 Noon and never had a problem getting a table for two, or even solo.
Please check out my photos from recent year's visits!
So, if you're seeking a truly extraordinary dining experience without the stuffiness of an overly-formal setting, Le Bernardin is the perfect choice.
It’s a place where you can relax, indulge your senses, savor exquisite seafood, and create lasting memories.
