I've been up since 2AM, started working at 3AM and I am finally done. 5PM. And this is my first meal of this day.
I am always worried about "Mexican" restaurants in Texas because many times they are not at all. In Dallas at least, it seems to me all get their ingredients from the same place and the result is everything taste the same anywhere. Mexican, Italian, Americana, all get their stuff from Ben E Keith and all taste the same to me.
Plus, it has to be said. Flower tortillas while delicious are not really Mexican, nor are burritos, nor are chimichangas for that matter.
So it is most appropriate to consider this place TexMex.
All that being said, I was very pleased when I saw real Mexicans with their red aprons in the kitchen, and seems that the kitchen boss is an older Mexican gentleman. And it shows.
I had the Pork plate which essentially is a sort of "Puerco en salsa verde."
It was just a tat salty, possibly from simmering for a long time. The thing was super hot (in temperature).
But the flavor of the salsa is very familiar to my palate. It reminds me of "comida corrida" restaurants at "el mercado" back home.
The serving is Texas size, generous. Two could share and be fine for a dinner.
The salsa for the nachos (another hint of a TexMex place) was good, fresh.
To me it seems that they make the salsa for the pig and the salsa for the nachos daily. It taste fresh.
My waiter was very pleasant, gorgeous in reality. A nice change of scenery after spending a whole sunny day in the sticks with cows and ugly fat hairy dudes.
She was on point, fast, attentive, and even made some great suggestions for the next time I stop by which I hope is not too into the future.
Hungry? Want good food and good service? Come on by Dos Hermanos. These compas are legit.
