It saddens me to write this...but I can't let what happened today pass without saying something. This place has been my favorite store in the DFW area for years. The quality of the items, care put into the preparation and quality ingredients, and kindness and hard work of Dorothy are unmatched. I live 50 minutes from here but will stop whenever I'm within even 20 minutes because it's such a unique place. I had just gotten off the phone with my husband stating gleefully that I was about to go into my favorite store ever!Simon must have been having a bad day. How do I know his name?... because I faithfully watch the Instagram stories like a super fan.Anyways, I told my kids they could choose one treat, so they were looking at the options in the no-cheese cake case. They had selected power balls, but they went back to look at the no-cheesecake. My oldest daughter pulled down the cake from a higher shelf, and Simon almost raced over and said "Stop playing with the food" in a stern voice while taking it from her. She immediately cowered in shame and said "sorry." I was caught off guard and said we would not be purchasing anything from the case then. I told Simon I still wanted to buy the yogurt I had selected, and asked him why he spoke to my children like that. He said he can't sell the cake if it has been smeared to the side, which he kept repeating over me while I explained they were being careful. He would not listen to me and kept talking over me, repeating he could not sell the cake if it touches the side. How about this? Why don't you talk to me, the parent, first, and let me know that we would have to purchase any cakes that get messed up from the kids handling? Problem solved. Or another suggestion... I was literally about to spend between $100 to $200 on items I had come in for. Maybe don't get all worked up about the possibility of one cake getting smudged, rather than losing a loyal customer for life. If that had happened, then approach me and I will pay for it. That's reasonable. My kids are good kids, and there is no one harder on them than me. When they are doing wrong or being accidentally destructive, I will be the first to correct them. They don't need an over-powering adult man scolding them over something that hadn't happened yet. After trying to explain they hadn't done anything wrong, he said they did do something wrong, then refused to sell me the yogurt item, so we effectively got kicked out of a place that has been my happy place for years AND that I have recommended to almost any person who I know who lives in the area or is healthy.Sad event that pride and a bad day lost a faithful fan and customer. Good luck in the future. I really mean it, as your place is amazing.
